Thread: Takapari Road

Hey lads ,
Just looking to go for a hunt tommorow and am wondering if Takapari road is open up to the 4wd track , so not all the way up.
Is it accesible for a 2wd ranger up to the 4wd track ?
Looking at driving up to the 4wd track and doing a bit of waking into the area.
Have not been up there before but have hunted around pohongina abit.

Even if it is open you would need a serious club 4x4 with winch lockers bla bla bla to make it to the top. You need skills to just dirt bike around the elephant traps that have developed up there. Be prepared to walk/MTB up a ways then drop over into a north facing gut.

And then come back and tell us how you got on

Duck around to behind Dannevirke and go up the dry creek at Tamaki. You will be up under the catspaw and the faces under the A Frame - or shoot up the ridge that goes right to the A Frame. Takes 1.5 hrs or so.

Up to the park gate and the start of the 4wd track is a farm road. Normally very passable however there has been a fair bit of rain lately.
I haven't been up there in fair while but the farm portion is normally fine until you hit the gate to the park itself but if you do find it muddy please don't go ripping it up.

Had an awsome adventure today at takapari road ,got to the top and walked in.
Far out, the track is absolutely smoked!
Anyways, we walked about 4o minutes up the track and ducked in on the right handside to see what we could find.
We found lots of fresh sign but didnt see any deer , mind you, it was pretty dense in the area we were in and we could of possibly scared off any deer in the area with our stalking skills. We stalked alomg untill we dropped down onto one of many little creeks/rivers.
Anyway, was a good time out of the house and good for the old fitness.
