Buying lifetime warranty gear without receipt.

Would you guys do it? And if so what price are you willing to pay? Over the last few years I’ve seen a few high end Scope, binos ect ect Vortex, Leupold, Nightforce and Swarovski gear come up, selling for 2k -3k below retail. Whats everyone’s experience with buying the gear if you have? I’ve been stung in the past by not getting a proof of purchase. Worth the risk on some Swaro’s El binos or not worth the hassle?

Let’s for conversation sake say it’s all legit branded gear and not knockoffs

Email the company but if they have a lifetime warranty then i would expect you to have the recept. But this might mean its on you to sort out shipping as it cant go back through the suppler process with out it.

It could be, but the stuff that’s getting listed has photos and serial numbers clear as daylight. Every now and then stuff pops up on trademe and market place but It’s a good hit below market price. I just personally think it’s too big of a risk without the receipt as most lifetime warranty stuff still requires it as a proof of purchase. $2500-3k is a lot for binos or a scope that could shit the bed

I wouldn't even try and claim under warranty without proof of purchase. It's difficult enough getting resolution when you have it!

It could be gear purchased with credit card fraud. We get lots of attempted orders coming from Rotorua. Literally any order we get from Rotorua now we do our due diligence on.

Most NZ importers will keep quite comprehensive records of models/serial numbers, date of sale and whether to end user or dealer (and which dealer)
    We do in any case.

If you have the serial number flick the manufacturer an email?

Did so for a second hand leupy, they confirmed the scopes (interesting) history and that it was genuine and covered by their warranty...

Having to produce a receipt for something which has a lifetime warranty is Bizarre. Thermally printed receipts go blank after a year or so, apart from that receipts simply get lost of misplaced. For any higher value item we would have no problem going into Xero and confirming a purchase historically. As already mentioned most higher value products also have a serial number which can be confirmed with the manufacturer. This is important because lifetime warranties are supported and covered by the manufacture, so in the case of a claim although you would go back to the supplier in the first instance, if the supplier no longer exists then you need to be able to go to that manufacturer.

I've not had an issue with Leupold warranties with no receipt. Just go into nearest stockist, they send it away, comes back fixed.
But totally depends on the brand on the level of service you are going to receive.

You don't need the receipt for Leupy or Burris, but the retailers aren't happy if you didn't buy it off them. The H&F manager was unhappy with Baretta for sending me his way, but hey, it's a lifetime warranty "No questions asked".

Totally agree! I do see that Swarovski, Vortex and Bushnell need proof of purchase for warranty claims. It’s always stumped me why you would need the receipt when they could just track the serial on their end and see if it’s sold through a shop. I turned down a pair of Swaro El 10x42 for not having a receipt because at 3k it’s still alot of money for something that I might have to fork out of my own pocket for
