    Hostility

Hi team im only new here and like many others i guess my attention was drawn to this forum/ i heard about this forum through google search after google search of all the millions of questions i had as a new hand at shooting as a hobby rather than just a means of meat.
Ive noticed alot of scorn directed at newbies who are posting stuff for sale or wanting to buy. Everyone seems to think its because people are wanting to get something for nothing.
Maybe look at it a different way, i could be wrong but i for one have hopped on here after using google to find past posts that somewhat relate to my question for the last year. I enjoy the interactive knowledge shared and differing opinion/ reasoning behind them. But lets say i hadnt already sold my rifle set up and decided that my short bush rifle wasnt my buzz anymore and i wanted to get into long range stuff with the advice of you more experienced shooters. i would join the forum that best represented my interests and then possibly first up list my rifle for sale to free up funds to pursue my new interest.
No harm done just trying to immerse myself in a new world that i am quite excited about. Only to find out that that isnt the done thing and i just didnt know about it, next thing there is 10 people hating on me with their wires completely crossed.
I don't see that being very welcoming for new people to the world of hunting and shooting.

Just an example from what i have observed on multiple occasions now. I sold my rifle to a friend and am currently trying to source the bits together to start stretching the legs a bit, so i can relate to where the others are coming from.

Perhaps in the sticky note about buying as selling there should be some rules regards a length of time or minimum amount of posts before you list something for sale.

Please dont turn on me for this, just an observation from the side lines

People have had a whole month of fuck all life, and this place has at times been the bright spot in the day, and sometimes we/me/them can get a bit proprietorial about the place when yet another unknown new person pops up looking to sell stuff, rather than engaging first. There has been a lot of that in the last while.

There have been a few running discussions around how to manage that, but for now it is what it is, if you are feeling a bit sensitive, might not be the best place at the mo, a fair amount of tetchyness that won't go away until we are free again.

Im not phased at all by it personally, hasnt happened to me and id probably tell everyone to get fucked (then regret it later when i needed advice) haha but it seems a shame if people are doing that to such a good resource.
maybe a sticky post regarding forum etiquette for newbies to read so they understand how it all works would save the issues of someone making a genuine mistake vs someone being a complete dick and taking advantage

Thankyou very much for the heads up on this @freezerfiller we are not all like this. Welcome to the forum!
I hope that you stick around, I think that you will find that it will improve as you go along.

If you are selling there are clear rules on how to here https://www.nzhuntingandshooting.co....ms-guide-8087/ if you stick to these you cant really go wrong.
    Cheers S

    Hey Sideshow,

Is it worth maybe adding to that post about introducing yourself first?

I did read those rules but not the whole thread, apologies for not introducing myself first, maybe it would have saved some perceived conflict, or maybe as mentioned further up were all just a little stir crazy from being cooped up inside

Welcome, on this forum, you will get out of what you put in. Worth persevering and you will enjoy it I can assure of that. Good buggas outnumber the others by quite a considerable margin. Yes we are protective of our forum, but many have been burnt before and this will still continue I guess. Follow the rules or if not sure Of these ask such as which you have already done. Enjoy your time here and welcome.

a whole month of lockdown...and you know what happens once a month and how tetchy and grumpy folk get around that time......
the buy n sell thing does get folks backs up...as does first time poster looking for area to"just get a meat animal to feed the family" then never hear from them again and find previous area has been thrashed...next time no info given.
both forums have a giveaway thread...seems some folk love to take advantage of that too...take take and never give anything back...

theres three things that cause major peeves
owning a T3 7MM08 just gets latte jokes thrown your way.
    welcome aboard.

It's a good forum. I joined 4 years ago and have learnt a lot. I offer information to others as best I can, usually about fishing and small game because I'm an inexperienced deer hunter. I've met three forums members and been hunting with two of them. Really decent blokes. I've received three bits of kit completely free of charge and sent out the same. I've also bought and sold a few items without any problems. Tensions are running high at the moment for obvious reasons. I think it will settle in due course.

@freezerfiller Hi and welcome. I think most prefer a little bit of history within the forum. Suspicion can be raised same as a trade me seller with little feedback whoo joined a few days ago and is selling something expensive potentially too cheaply. It simply rings a few alarm bells and people can get defensive.

Firearms forums are natural targets for trolling and we do get the occasional anti trolling here to see if they can upset the apple cart. And most of those are either trying to buy without a license ( have not struck one yet ....here) or sell what could potentially be stolen goods. Both which would do harm to our sport.

Most members are good people who are genuine in their passion, and there are some real good buggers on here too. A big thanks to those in the admin team could also be applied here as they also filter a lot of the new membership for these sort s of shenanigans.

We all have to start somewhere. I think one of the bigger bugbears is those that jump on here and their first post is "Where can I hunt?"

The best place here to join in is, well anywhere you want to join in and add a comment. Start with the Campfire thread and use the like button....I am sure you will find something there....

    Again, welcome.

@freezerfiller welcome mate. I just want to reaffirm what the rest have said but they left out that to be a true good bugger on here you have to have a 270 ( @northdude ) the king of calibres..behind 243's 303's and 416 rem mags.

sorry about @csmiffy comment he mustnt be having a good day get yourself a 6.5 of some kind the true king of calibers as for the agressivness of some posters i think that stems a bit from not being able to back their opinions or arguments up with any kind of facts or logical (not quite sure if thats the right word to use) so resort to getting aggresive to try and win the discussion and it generally goes down hill from there
