Thanks for not nuking whole threads

I'd like to thank the moderators (a few new ones as well I see), that are removing individual 'problematic posts' rather than just taking a 'lazy-way-out' and nuking the whole thread which was done in the past.

I appreciate this 'sniper shot approach', rather than just dropping the bomb on what could otherwise still be an interesting thread.
A good job and a good wife has been the ruin of many a good hunter.

I think between us we are trying not to nuke whole treads, but we are taking the approach of locking threads that become too high maintenance. These locked threads will not disappear but they will be locked from new replies.
As long as nothing too extreme is in there, there is no reason to nuke the whole thread.
Please guys remember us mods are volunteers we receive nothing for the work we do, nor do we expect to. We just want to try and keep this place awesome for everyone.

There are hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of previous threads that have posts “sniped “ out of them and they have used up hundreds of hours a year of voluntary time and effort and done in such a way as to cause as little disruption as possible.

Whole thread removal is a last resort, and contemplated by many behind the scenes

If losing a thread offends or annoys anyone utilise that emotion to report posts that need bringing to our attention

@7mmsaum @dannyb Whilst I am not generally in favour of 'more and more endless rules', I think that in the case of forum moderation a new 'code of conduct' would be of use. 'No swearing, derogatory remarks or personal attacks directed at other members' would make a big difference. I have seen time and again members who feel their personal beliefs challenged by the contents of a thread, will attack the man, bait other members, with full intension of stirring up aggressive responses and putting the mods in a position where they can but only delete the thread.
With a 'code of conduct' of some sort in place as soon as a member transgresses they can be blocked from the particular thread saving the information and leaving the level headed members alone to exchange ideas and information

I disagree, what you’ve just described will only facilitate an echo chamber for the brotherhood of the ‘level headed’.
Simply abiding by the no religion and no politics works just fine in my view.

The problem with that is we already have some very simple rules regarding politics and religion that are constantly being broken or bent, more rules will just result in more moderation.
Derogatory and personal attacks are already not tolerated and when they are reported we deal with them.

I dont know why politics and religion are deemed banned topics when as dannyb states that these rules are continually broken - it would appear that there is appetite to discuss political matters that affect the firearms owning community. However it is not the ultra vires discussion of these two topics that has resulted in the majority of thread and information deletions. I have seen threads and members removed for discussing Spotlighting, covid, 911, propellant prices, Nordstream, Ukraine, Climate change and thats just what comes to mind as I type. I have also seen members leave because of forum sensor-ship. Member 'Love to Safari' stated that he was leaving this forum and found other forums less censored. Your use and creation of the term 'brotherhood of the levelheaded' is pretty transparent as a derogatory slight and I thank you for making it here, as it is a clear example of just the sort of divisive comments that add nothing to this forum and should in my opinion be banned

If "Derogatory and personal attacks are already not tolerated" could we simply have this included in the rules please.

    NO Covid/Vaccination Topics or Posts

Admin at NZHS have decided that Covid and Vaccination related topics or posts have no place on this forum, they ultimately issue in arguments and detract from the Hunting and Shooting atmosphere here.

As Covid is no longer appropriate on this Forum Admin will remove any members or posts deemed to be involving the topic.

Admin encourage you to get your health information from appropriate sources, not anonymous people on a forum that's unrelated to the subject.

For some time contentious and divisive subjects unrelated to hunting have dominated and it's clear they do more harm than promoting productive, informative or enjoyable conversation.

Complicated subjects like foreign and local politics, religion, climate change, social inequalities, racism, human rights etc which warrant in depth conversation should be conducted elsewhere, in a forum dedicated to these subjects. These subjects are not what people are looking for when they search for and visit this Forum.

Off topic subjects are intended to be an asset to this Forum, often as light hearted engaging conversation.

If at times you find something inappropriate then report it, don't insult the person, don't get involved, just report it to Admin, they will sort it, behind the scenes, at the appropriate time, it might not be at a time that suits you, but it will have been assessed and sorted.

The NZHS Forum aims to provide a mature environment which promotes legal, responsible firearms practises. The discussion or promotion of illegal activities is prohibited and members may not post abusive, defamatory or otherwise objectionable content - this includes any grieviences with authorities or firearms dealers, as such matters are best kept between the parties involved.

Again this Forum is not the place to raise these problems AS THEY CANNOT BE SOLVED HERE. Take it up with the vendor, Consumer affairs or whatever Administrative Tribunal is appropriate.

If you see a post in breach of the above, or any Moral or ethical breach, we ask that you report it to Admin.

The content of this post is not up for debate and we are not seeking input on its pros or cons or to explain or justify.

If you can’t handle you’re own term of level headed being levelled back at you, then I would suggest you need thicker skin.

My personal view, and I am not challenging forum rules, is that if a person is sufficiently mature and balanced to be legally entrusted with the safe responsible ownership of firearms, that person should also be sufficiently mature and balanced, even restrained, to engage in debate of any legal subject without loosing their temper etc

    Wow! That escalated quickly.
Who'd have thought a thread on not deleting would turn into an argument about arguing.
