Thread: What courier or transport company will cart a rifle in nz ?

I am wanting to know what courier or transport company will move a rifle around NZ ? Somebody must be doing it , because how else do rifles get moved between dealers ?
SO far i know that NZ post and any courier associated with them, are not doing this business. And thats a problem , because i can send a parcel to NZ with a rifle in it , all legal . But it will stay at NZ post , even when cleared by customs because NZ post wont touch it.
SO, even if i could find NZ Posts "customs " holding warehouse . What company am I able to send to pick it up ?

A dealer can ship dealer to dealer for you.

Fastways couriers are doing it again i believe, dealer to dealer of course.

Avoid Aramex if you can... I had two rifles being shipped D2D Chch to Wellington - apparently 2-3 days delivered is standard. Picked up Tuesday 9:30am, departed Chch Depot 12:30pm, estimated delivery on Friday... 5 full days later, and it's still not even at the Wellington Depot yet. Maybe ferry cancellations?

I've spent today sharpening some sticks for the day trip I'm due to go on tomorrow.

Anyway, Aramex evidently do it, and the FA Officer I rang about getting the forms was surprised I wasn't getting it sent direct to my address... I got the impression you didn't need the form if you already owned the firearm... or maybe you still need the form (which was surprisingly easy), but could get it sent direct to your address. I'd already arranged with the dealer here, so didn't want to mess them round.

Dealer to dealer is less hassle. Aramex seem to be the only ones doing it and dealer to dealer.
Its easy and it works its just not speedy at all. But it is better than nothing.

Unless the firearm you are looking at importing is very special in one way or another then I don't think its worth all the hassle involved in importing.

Yep, I know that . But how do you get the rifle out of customs ? I wanting to import a rifle . It will arrive in NZ , be checked by customs , and then somehow move from the customs/ border to a a gun dealer . What courier company does that ?

So, i dont know how they are carrying rifles ? Are those who have used them , just not saying whats in the parcel ? I dont think you have too anyway .

It's a big risk. Look at Aramex/Fastways online reviews. They are complely useless. Back when you could get a rifle sent to your address they lost my Sako 85 for 3 months, completely ignored me and purposefully made things difficult when I went down the road of trying to claim insurance and funny enough just through a chance encounter I found my rifle myself. The courier driver who had delivered it couldnt be fucked driving the extra 3km down a country road to leave it at my house so he just left it at the farmlands store in our local town assuming they would know me. They didnt, as I use PGG almost exclusively, so it sat in their back room for nearly three months untill I just happened to go in there to buy some 22 Ammunition because PGG had none. They saw my name on my license and the fella said hang on a minute, I think we have a package that was left here for you...
In theory my complaint/enquiry and claim for insurance from Fastways is still open 5 or so years later and they're still to contact me..

find out WHERE in NZ the rifle will arrive.....if its in the same island as you are...go and pick it up direct from customs. seems like the most logical way to bypass the whole courier issue.

Yep , I thought that too. But "Customs " dont actually hold anything . All the international recievers including NZ post , DHL, Toll etc are actaully agents of "customs" . MY rifle would arrive in NZ ( probably via UPS service ) from the states . Then it would ( I guess ) be handed off to NZ post as just another international parcel landed in NZ . NZ post will inform customs , and customs would then do their thing via NZ post . Then one of them would say the parcel was here , and import duty was X . SO , I pay one of them the duty and Then the rifle would just sit there because NZ post wont deliver it .
So, what I dont know is . Will one of them say thanks for the money , drive up to Auckland , go to airport , knock on shed 32 door and ask nicely , or what ?
