Id be interested as to what type of engineer is needed to certify it.?
After all the term engineer extends to all sorts of totally unrelated things nowadays.
there must be someone find a enginner who has done the certificate, anyone here know them?
That would be a design thing to the rules provided by the arms officer and just signed by an engineer? To verified it was manufactured to design? Nothing structural involved in the way it's assembled?
Would be interesting to see the actual design spec/limits as defined by law.
i was looking at the sentry safes at H&F the other day.And am a little confused how they get around the 6mm steel plate thing for a e cat as the door on that was not 6mm more ike 3 folded to give the impression of a heavy door. I am interested to see what specs the police want in a e cat safe as I think most of the safes I have looked at seem very cheaply made.
I believe the specs are outlined in Arms Regulations 1992.
Arms Regulations 1992 (SR 1992/346) (as at 01 July 2013) Contents – New Zealand Legislation

6mm Steel is not really mentioned
Section 28 subsection C refers to
28 Security precautions in relation to pistols, military style semi-automatic firearms, and restricted weapons
(1) Every person who is lawfully entitled to possession of a pistol, military style semi-automatic firearm, or restricted weapon other than an air pistol by virtue of a permit under section 18 of the Act or a firearms licence endorsed under section 30 or section 30B of the Act shall ensure that, except when the pistol, military style semi-automatic firearm, or restricted weapon is in his or her immediate physical possession or is being used, in accordance with section 31 of the Act, for the purpose of making a broadcast or producing or staging a play or filming a cinematic production or television film or is in the custody of a licensed dealer or a member of the Police, it is—
locked in a steel safe or steel box or steel cabinet (being in every case a safe, box, or cabinet of sound construction and of a type approved in writing either generally or in the particular case by a member of the Police) bolted or otherwise securely fixed (in a manner approved in writing either generally or in the particular case by a member of the Police) to the building within which the pistol or military style semi-automatic firearm or restricted weapon is kept..
The highlighted bit is the reason why the difference between A and E is important.
Another can with worms?
So how can any one certify a safe meets a standard that doesn't exist other than it must be steel?
There has to be a design, a drawing FFS all I've ever heard is the 6 mm for E cat, is this just a lazy police near enough? Can't be? How many and what type of locking? Etc etc?
Looks like I can certify it VC I'll post you a copy of my signature with a sticky 6 mm backing?
From Pol67/k (s) security inspection form NZ Police.
6mm is only mentioned in relation to "steel cabinet" or "Steel box" not Safes

Excellent Mikee exactly what's needed, would need to get verified by correct police authority and done!
I have the 32 gun sentry safe and it came with the engineers cert. No problems, I also know of someone else who has the same safe and had no problems when vetted
That would be a small room?
There is a good video on you tube on how to open a sentry safe in one minute.
anyone knows any engineer who can give the certificate?
Yeah I've seen the video, it wont be hard to remove the button if your that worried about it. I still think they are the best value safe but a 32 gun safe doesn't hold 32 rifles well maybe 32 scopeless 22lr.
Bill check yellow pages for a Mechanical Engineer with Mikees specs should be straight forward, just need those plans authenticated by the right police dept.
I have a Sentry 24 gun safe but dont remember getting a certificate with it. Would anyone have a copy that they could send me?
