Ive got a 308 with 18 barrel. Just got me a 300wsm so looking at cutting it down to a bushpig. Does anyone know if 14 is too short and making the rifle useless. I know 16 barrel is fine. But dont wanna bother with just 2 cut off

Well Hand gun metallic silhouette shooters use pistols with 14" barrels to knock over steel rams at 200 metres so it should work on animals
some reloading manuals have data for silhouette loads
Will it be longer than 762 mm without the surpressor is the only problem.
would you use a 7.62x39mm or 30/30 as a bush rifle?????
cause thats about what you will end up with velocity wise at a guess .30/30 pills could well be the go.
as shooters has pointed out, make sure overall length is still ok and for goodness sake DONT fire it without suppressor fitted.
It’s currently shooting 2675fps @18”. If it was cut down to 14” then it would still be shooting 2500fps roughly(id hope). But unsure whether @ 14” the bullet doesnt get enough twist and making it useless. Have suppersor for it obviously, dpt overbarrel which will add 4” back making overall length 18”

Barrel length has nothing to do with how much twist the bullet gets, If your DPT suppressor has the stainless first baffle it should be ok otherwise the first baffle
will take a pounding from full power loads there is going to be a shit load of hot gas and unburnt powder hitting it.
After using a 12” barreled 300 blackout for the last few years I’d be happy killing stuff with a 14” 308 with a lot more velocity than the blackout. I hate using my 21” Sako Finnlite it’s barrel is to long now in thick bush, it’s great for long range and open areas.
Cool 14” it is. Yeah have ordered a stainless baffle for that reason. Will let yous know how it goes.
if thats a 150-170 grn projectile its pretty darn close to 30/30 so the flexytip 170grn could very well be worth a look, might give you better terminal preformance..... nosler 125grn ballistic tips are another that work great at slightly lower speed (they kill deer in x39mm bang flop)
MSL make sure to resite in if you havent already...they shoot 6-8" higher than anything else in my mates marlin.
