    22 LR "accuracy" ammo

Very interesting reading the Vudoo thread.

If one was going to buy a few boxes of target grade ammo to keep for testing 22's (my idea being to test rifles to verify its an ammo related problem rather than a rifle one) what would you guys recommend as a 3-5 box set that might cover most rifles?? Currently I only have Norma Match, it shoots well in my Annie but while it shoots better than hunting ammo in the Unique the difference is not as marked as it is with the Annie (and a Brno)

And where does target ammo come from, its certainly not in your everyday LGS.

    Thanks

SK Pistol & rifle match are certainly worth a look....Eley Black & Tenex is arguably better but at a cost...Lapua Centre Ex & Midas plus are also worth a look but even more $$$...if you can find them....

Basic : CCI Standard, CCI Subsonic
Mid : Eley Sport (green box)
Top : Lapua Polar Biathlon, Eley Tenex, Eley Black

In general the slower 22 ammo is better, just over supersonic seems to be the sweetspot

For target ammo talk to your local smallbore club, they will know where to get it. Belmont does SK and Lapua.

Other suppliers to check with : TSNZ (Target Shooting NZ), and also ShootingStuff

    Similar to EBF recommendations.

I'm shooting a Lithgow and an old Anschutz Match 54 SB rifle, scoped.

Have had incredible groups with the humble CCI SV at 100 yds. Just get the occasional flier which drives me nuts.

1 MOA groups at 100 yds with Eley Edge. Haven't tried the more expensive Eley yet but have indented some Eley Match from ShootingStuff due to arrive early 2020.

V good groups with SK Standard. Groups with SK Rifle Match and SK Pistol Match no great improvement over the Standard. In fact my batch of Pistol Match had alarming ES thru the LabRadar. As for the top of the line Belmont stuff (Lapua), it always seems to be out of stock when I can afford to try it.

Tried most RWS stuff up to R50. Generally disappointing particularly the R50 given its price.

    Geco, don't bother, plinking ammo.

Have some 30 year old, long discontinued, Fiocchi Super Match V320 left which groups extremely well and has low ES. Tried the modern replacement Fiocchi and not as good as my old supply of SM.

I try to do most of my testing at 100 yds now but many days I arrive at the range and the wind has already got up (my range is very close to the sea and runs approximately N to S), so don't waste ammo.

Shootingstuff is good, they generally have broken lots of last year's shipment left over, at much reduced prices. The SB crowd are not interested in such small quantities. Trouble is if you find a lot that your rifle loves you usually cannot get more.

    As always with ammo/rifles YMMV.

Jelly meat SK is not bad for a bulk lot either on the cheaper end of the scale. you used to be able to get a few different types in one order from Shooting stuff but due to courier thing its a bit harder now.
Ditto on the RWS i expected better for the price.

When the season starts back up or if you know a local small bore shooter try getting an addition to their inventory.

Federal "match" was pretty good, groups at 50m were the same as tenex

Yeah, meant to say, picked up some SK Magazine (500 round can, I think the old Lapua Club) when I was last in Wanganui. Particularly good batch highly recommended by the local SB shooters down there who use it as club ammo. Bout the same price as CCI SV.

CCI SV is what I'm using now and yes its generally pretty good but as @zimmer says, the "fliers" drive me bonkers too. I'm trying to shoot this challenge here https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/foru...eally-Prove-it! (22 RF - 5 groups of 5 shots all on the same page and all under 0.5" at 50 yards or metres) and its a good bit harder than it first looks. Getting an accurate rifle is one thing, but getting ammo to shoot 5x 5 shot groups without a flier is another. Ditto on technique, one "soft" hold or tense shoulder and the whole thing goes out the window.

My Annie 1415/1416 is accurate enough I think, but its very light and hold sensitive.

My first suggestion would be to shoot it inside, instantly it will become a lot more achievable

Outside sucks, which is why we shoot outside

In the last 3 weeks I've just tested with 13x Eley and RWS flavours with my Annie 1416 and CZ 452 in some fairly substandard windy conditions and was planning on posting the results soon if I get the chance. Had the most success with the Annie and RWS Special Match and Eley Edge in both rifles. Neither rifle liked R50 or Eley Match somewhat surprisingly. Ended up being pretty hit and miss with the expensive vs cheap ammo to be honest. Before you ask there was no 10x available and also most SK and Lapua are not available at the moment either - I plan to test these in the future but am pretty happy with the 1416 RWS combo atm.

Anyone tried the ‘Norma Jaktmatch’? I think its made by RWS. The current batch/lot seems consistently better across my Annie/CZ/Kimber rifles. Eley better in some, SK standard in others, CCI or Lapua in others, but the Norma seems best fit across all the varying brands and configurations I’ve shot recently.

Yup @ HandH I've found the same with the Norma but I've run out. Would love to get some more if anybody knows of some . . . .

This. I got the exact same. Start with the lower price stuff and work up, you might get lucky and not have to use the more expensive stuff. I found SK pretty good, I believe its the same product marketed as wolf match elsewhere.
