Thread: 270wsm xbolt

I haven't used my 270wsm for a few months so am going to give it an outing for a couple of days hunting soon.

Southforth carbon stock, light trigger spring, 22" barrel. z4 swarvo 3-12. Its a good set up.

150 grn Berger VLD Hunting & 2225 powder. 3030 fps

Took it to the range yesterday to check the zero. Slight L to R breeze.

Only fired the 3 shots. Didn't measure the group but its a half inch dot. Its great when a rifle is well set up and reliable.

Keep an eye on those Berger’s

Any with a meplat smaller than 20-24 thou (.5 mm) can potentially perform like a FMJ

Best of for your hunt and be safe out there

Oh if onlyy 2225 was more readily available

I had to google "metplat" They look uniform and I haven't had trouble in the past.

Ive got 27 loaded rounds and then enough for another 15 and that's it. Then it will be onto R26 which I will need to build a load for.

I think it's a pretty well addressed issue in the later boxs iv had a similar threw my multiple boxs and all appear to be well. Good luck tidy shooting that is

I've got 54 loaded rounds then I'm going to have to find a supplement....dunno what yet or where I'm gonna find it but I'll figure something out

Mine loved rl26 but I've got even less of that laying around maybe enough for 6 rounds

Surely it's a Tikka, Browning's can't shoot like that, you're going to upset the narrative here if you post stuff like that.

Just using what Ive got. No Fusions left but I have 140 of the Bergers. Still plenty of confusion though, and it seems to be getting worse.

Brian is using the 150 Fusions in his 300 mag tube gun and they smack the deer.

I ran into this problem with the first (and last) box I bought, shooting LR foxes in Aus, 2011-12. Not only was the meplat internal diameter a variable, with some so small you’d be lucky to get a thin needle in there, but the depth of the hollow point to the lead was variable too. Some of them did exactly as you describe, FMJ. Others literally blew the fox (or wild dog) in half. They were so inconsistent I stopped using them. But my mate in W.A. continued and he is adamant the problem was a QC fail that was fixed and he’s never seen it again.
