    303 vs wet blanket ?

Was having a wee dram with mate and his father inlaw (Darwin) last night.
Darwin told us about a trick they used to do with a wet (saturated) blanket, hang it over a wire and at 50 yards a 303 round would not go through it.Is there any truth in it or has anyone with a 303 ever tried it

It will sail through it,probably will do the same out to 1600 meters or so.

There was a myth doing the rounds over here tgat chainsaw protective trousers as they are made from Kevlar would stop bullets.

Folded five times they will stop a .22 but that's it.

...missed the bit in the story where the blanket belonged to a unicorn that was working in politics.

I’d have been worried if you HAD been wearing a silk scarf, I always regarded you as too manly for that sort of carry on!

A winter-weight bedsheet hung from one edge will stop an air rifle pellet at a few metres. As long as the trailing edge is free, the sheet moves with the slug a few inches decelerating the slug which then drops to the floor. I can imagine a heavy old wool blanket being soaked and hanging with its lower edge free might possibly do the same with a .303.
10MRT shooters do it 60 times, in two directions and at two speeds.

i cannot wait to hear the report from the aspiring academic who decides to try this "theory" out in real life.I once had a barney with a know all who reckoned a 12 shotgun was so low powered its charge wouldnt go through a galvanised rubbish can @25yds.
He had a funny smell about his person after i did the experiment in front on him and he saw how much of the rear of the fucker had vanished.
a so called tale is one thing -reality is often the exact opposite.

Not a chance at all, 174 grains doing 2440 FPS take a bit to stop and a wet blanket, like a wet German tunic, doesnt stop them....:-)

There is a discredited British Army myth regarding wet blankets stopping 9mm submachine gun ammo.

I never heard of it stopping a 303!!!

About to say the same as Percy Jones. Lots of axis soldiers wished it was true. But its not.
