    308 135gr hollow point

    Hey team,

I've just recently tried some different ammo through my 308, some buffalo river 135gr hollow point, shoots like bloody laser.
Question is, how effective will they be on animals? Anyone else running the same ammo

not sure what projectile it is in them....but plenty of folks have run speer 130grn hp handgrenade loads for many many years, ideal for pest controlling light animals,goat/wallaby and will work on deer very well with careful shot placement.... awesome projectile at slower speeds...... if your stuff is accurate, you have half the battle won.

This is a varmint bullet. I’ve got some photo somewhere of the damage these do on large goats. Give me a moment.

Righto. I’m not actually going to post those as they are unnecessarily gory.

Bottom line is that this bullet is explosively violent on goat size creatures and makes a horrendous mess. It’s turned a couple of them inside out, literally pushing all the guts out of the hole on the exit. I was using them for head and neck shooting deer as they were very very accurate in my 22” Tikka. I don’t recall chest shooting red deer with them as I think I decided not to. This was about 4-5 years ago so a bit hazy now sorry.

IIRC when I went to buy another box I couldn’t find them, and moved onto old stock of A-Max and Nosler BTs.

Thanks mate, I'm in two minds if to use them on deer, I'm not to keen on massive amounts of damage, might need to try something else even though it shoots really well

I’ll double down on that. Im throwing the TTSX 130s at animals atm and have had a couple goats turn inside out - front on chest shots with exits out back end of ribs - absolutely lethal. Have pinged a few decent reds - nothing huge - and some fallow with them with less gorey effects, good exits, Puts them down a treat. So far only 40-200m distances but overall am pleased with their performance thus far.

Don't get your head messed up with will or won't they and opinions.
I see your location is Rotorua, I've hunted around there and that will work for you. Patience and persistence plus placement, it's a good combo.
I am a 110 fan, thumb nails and still enough energy at three hundred on fellow.
Go shoot a few goats or something,
Otherwise you will procrastinate to a arm chair judge and the fun of experience is robbed or high jacked into a mind game.
    Enjoy.

sounds like they are similar to the speers, they were a popular round with chopper shooters for the same head/neck shots....would be AWESOME wallaby medicine...

The 130 grain hp used to be lethal on goats.... still are going by the billy I shot yesterday ( if it was a 130gn projectile)

The Sierra 135gr hpbt is a savage pill. Neck shoot them and you will be very happy. Shot a few goats with that factory ammo and will add another vote to the messy pile

    A thought that felt recoil was more with a 180gn than a 130gn ....

so did I till I tried those rounds...they DEFINATELY feel less than the same round in 150grn...more of a shove than a boot....a 130grn load will have little recoil in 30/06 unless its loaded really hot.... even then be not so much.
