    350m shots with 200m zero

After some advice/opinions. I hunt deer, and following some advice from the forum I run a 200m zero to keep it simple for 90% of my hunting situations. Occasionally though am presented with a deer at 300-350m. I have capped turrets and run a 7-08. Wondering if others with 200m zeros would dial for these distances even with capped turrets or just adjust point of aim? And if adjusting point of aim do you have set spots on the deer that you line up at certain distances?

Find somewhere you can shoot a big target at 350m, aim at the center and measure the drop. That will tell you exactly how much you'll need to hold over.

No need to dial. With a 200 yard zero and reasonable 140 grn factory ammo out to 400 yards you shouldn't have any daylight under the crosshairs. Always have the crosshairs on the animal. At 350-400 yards aim on the animals withers (top of shoulder). 300 yards a few inches under the withers.
When aiming for the top of the withers remember to allow for the thickness of the reticle - it can cause you to shoot high, which is common. If you rest the bottom of a thick horizontal reticle on the top of the withers you will be actually shooting a couple or few inches high.
Also shoot a smidge lower if it is a steep up hill or down hill shot.

Doing a drop test on a big target is a good idea.
Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing, and right-doing, there is a field. I will meet you there.

That's great, thanks for the insights. I can work with that.

I do believe we over think it a lot with shooting and scopes for normal hunting ranges, I would dail myself but really all you need to do for 300 is aim on back bone 350 aim bit above back bone

with the 7mm 08 with a 200m zero as a rough rule of thumb you will be 10cm low at 250m 25cm low at 300m and 45cm low at 350m. As long as you know the range then at these distances its not hard to use hold over. You also need to consider the size of the target when making this estimate, a Red is obviously larger than a Fallow. After 350m the drop gets to get quite large, around 70cm at 400m which starts make holdover a bit more hit and miss (pun intended). My 2 cents.

7mm08 is similar to 7x57 ballistically so this gives you an idea

Are you using a rangefinder or estimating distances?

Please get a dial up scope, you will rarely find an animal at exactly 350 yards

Good oh. There's still a good number of hunters out there who don't and it makes quite a difference to the approach necessary. @Tahr s advice is very sound, but I would also do yourself up a wee drop chart to attach to the rifle, this saves "remembering" what to do when you're under pressure to make the shot.

Better is waging a bet to get someone to accurately pinpoint 200m from where they are standing. 99/100 are usually miles out.
