The only time I have had pierced primers ever , is using Federal small rifle primers in a Sako .223 , with std loads , ruined a brand new rifle , as it gas cut the bolt face , such a shame .
    I had been reloading a lot of pistol ammo & was also reloading for 22-250 , 308 & 338LM , only had issue with 223 reloads ( SR ) .
Happened to be talking with a Belmont ammo rep , back in the day , and mentioned the problems I had with 223 , I had changed brass/powder etc , BUT not primers .
I had said to him that I was getting pierced primers when reloading for 223 , he said are you using Federal , I said YES , he said , YEAP they are known for it , wish I had known , still miss that little Sako 75 .
So I will not ever trust Federal SR primers , if I can help it .
I use CCI pistol primers in my Hornet , and have never had a issue , this is with a low pressure but good powder for the Hornet , Lilgun .
In 308 , use CCI BR2 , the only Federal primer I have is the large magnum , as it has not been an issue so far in my 338s .

In the hornet , the load I use , got off a guy in the US , that shoots tons of hornet ammo thru his CZ , its Lilgun , pisitol primers , and lee crimp , and out of my CZ its 3rds into 1/2 inche , magpies & goats HATE it , run it with a MAE 22mag can, and a 3-12x44 Bushy , and its a LOT of fun , and its a rifle I grab more often than not , on the way to the farm , also grab a AI rifle as well as I head out the door .

    Cheers Chris
