    Age of Parker Hale Safari ?

    Hi guys
    I have a PH Safari I'd like to put a date on
    Serial number is R 15448
    Google is little help
    Anyone got an idea as the the date of manufacture ?

    They were in NZ circa 1963-65 so yours could go back to then.
    I worked in Tisdalls sports in pnth and recall them from that era.

    I would place it in the late 60's to early 70's. The early rifles were based on the M98 Mauser military action and can be identified by the thumb recess in the left receiver wall and the safety catch on the bolt shroud. The later rifles used a commercial M98 action with no thumb recess, a streamlined bolt shroud, and the safety on the right side of the rear tang. I worked at Tisdalls in Ch-Ch 1969/70 and they were our most popular high-power in those days, cheaper than any other and a good value rifle. The Safari Super came out about then with the commercial action, hinged floorplate magazine, gold plated trigger, and 'americanised' stock with skip-line checkering. A photo would give me a better chance at dating it.
