    Ammo availability: A slack retailer?

So I went to the range this morning and needed another box of 140gr 6.5x55 (S&B) and 123 gr 7.62x39 (PRVI) afterwards. The local 'out there doin it' shop only had Winchester (x 2 boxes @ $60ea!) for the 6.5x55 and Tula for the 7.62x39, which the guy pulled from out the back. Not even PRVI, highland, S&B, barnaul on the shelf... apparently they are having difficulty getting PRVI.

What am I missing here? I'm not a guy who puts too many holes in holes so don't need flash stuff, but I'm not into cheap dirty stuff either.

Am I just having a sook, or is there not much 7.62x39 around? the 6.5x55 seems a bit slack too - they're a dime a dozen for the old sporterized CGs.

    Cheers, Feral

Seems to be just the price we pay living on a couple of islands far from anywhere else.

Smiths city sell S&B here in Chch. Imported by S R Marstons. (also here in chch) I would contact them. I know they wont sell it direct but they may be able to let you know who stocks it up your way. My 6.5x55 loves the S&B. Turns its muzzle up at anything else though.

Highland does bring it in. Anywhere that sells Ridgeline gear or Howa's should be able to access it. (Same importer)

Barnaul is relatively easy to get. Try this link and see how you get on

    BARNAUL - 7.62 x 39 M43

Or try Reloaders supplies in Onehunga, Akl.

Reloaders have plenty of 7.62x39 on the shelves. The Hornady SST steel case is a good hunting option. Don't worry about the steel cases. It has been proven time and again that steel cases cause no issues to firearms, its only the bi-metalic projectiles that wear out barrels. I bought a box to test projectile performance in the AR but my Timney trigger wont hit them hard enough to make them go bang!

Serious shooters also have Highland at a pretty good price. I am using this for goats/deer in my AR. Picked up 3,000 rounds a year or so back when it was just over $500/1000 and .223 ammo was going through the roof. Drops animals really well. Groups around the 1 1/2" out of the AR.
