    Ammo import limit

So just got back from the Aussie Silhouette Nationals and went through customs at Auck International Airport. Dutifully contacted the police to check my import permit to get my rifles back in the country. After confirming the serial numbers matched the import permit, the police asked if I had any ammo.. I said yes, as I was bringing some back with me (having not shot all of the 5kg I brought over with me). The officer indicated it needed to be less than the "5 boxes allowed". ?????????????????

    1) Has anyone else heard of an import limit on ammo you bring into the country?
    2) What defines a "box"? 20,50,555,5000 rounds?

Not sure if the officer thinking of the 5kg limit to fly with or totally confused about the "permit requirement"

Has anyone else experienced "ammo" issues with customs / police?

Insist to speak to the manager, no one else will do when dealing with dim wits. And get it all in writing, tell them that they had better get their facts straight because you are recording who said what and will make an official complaint if anyone wastes your time.

There is no limit to the quantity of ammunition you may bring into the country, other than the 5kg limit imposed by IATA. Just another example of police ignorance being covered up with some false response to exert authority!

Will you be following this up with the Police at the airport, so they know they were in the wrong?
