    Annual DOC Shoot being reactivated

    Hi all
This is to let all past competitors of the DOC Shoot know that the shoot is being revived after a couple of years of no action. A small group of keen competitors has decided to have a crack at getting it up and running again on October 14/15th, 2016.
The DOC Shoot started with the NZFS as an event to bring all the hunters/cullers together for training, debriefing, a shoot, and some camaraderie. When DOC was formed in 1987, bringing the Forest and Wildlife Services together the event carried on with fields of up to 100 shooters in it’s heyday. The shoot is for current DOC staff and ex NZFS, Wildlife Service, DOC, contractors, and friends as well. The shoot is about hunting rifles and so only sporting rifles are permitted, with scopes that don’t exceed 10X. The shoot has been well supported in the past by sponsors with some very generous prizes. It is a fun event with a dedicated group of hunters, shooters, and all round good buggers.
For more info on the shoot, go to the DOC Shoot Facebook page and ask to join, we have a closed group to keep it limited to appropriate persons, and to keep the trolls at bay. https://www.facebook.com/groups/170294640040668/

    From faceplant

The format is that we have the shoot in Wanganui at the Wanganui Handgun and Silhouette Club Range on Airport Road.
There are only three types of people in this world. Those that can count, and those that can't!

I have shot at this event several times and is a great day and well run. It is held at the Wanganui Pistol Club close to the airport. Usually a full days shooting depending on numbers of shooters.
The shoot is made up of two 20 round shoots at 100 yds and you shoot prone, kneeling or sitting, offhand and the last is a timed (30 second) run up load and shoot off hand. You shoot all your rounds at the same target so in theory you should have 20 bullets in your target for each round. Each position is 5 rounds. Shooting starts around 9am Saturday and finishes around 4 ish followed by dinner and a few beers and prize giving at the Army camp just down past the airport. There are huts at the camp and a cookhouse which is used as a base for the event. Most people stay at camp and Breakfast on Saturday, lunch, and dinner and beer as well as breakfast Sunday for the price for the weekend, used to be $40 but talk was it was going up a bit. Shame it is on the same weekend as Toby's Memorial Shoot as I would have liked to have a go at that one too.

    Hi all
We had to take a date that we could get the range and the army camp, and I didn't relaise the Toby Memorial was on. The 2017 shoot will be back at it's traditoponal time of early March. Thanks for the interest.
