Above speeds are an average across 3 shot groups with factory precision hunter ammo in 3 different tikka t3 creedmoors ive dealt with, all with factory barrels (shortend in the case of the 16" & 18"). Definately on the slow side compared to what the velocity on the packet suggests.

Assuming you have a 22" barrel, somewhere around 2550 will be a good starting point.
Man the tikka barrels are slow.

I get 2540 out of my 16 inch kimber with factory 143s. Chrono and drop confirmed

Yep they are slower but some of it is likely inconsistent factory ammo though. I chronod almost a whole packet of 143eldx in the 24" the other day while my wife was shooting it. Slowest was 2581 fastest was 2672. ES of 91

So the 2375 i got from the 16" a while back could well have been some "slow" factory rounds. I used to have a browning 6.5 prc, sold that and replaced it with a tikka 6.5 prc. Next to no difference in speed between them with the same load, the browning was 2" longer (26") so was always going to be faster but they were within 50fps with the same load.

    Greetings @6.5 CRD,
The differences between the three barrel lengths is about what I would expect or a loss of around 20 to 25 fps per inch down to 18 to 20 inches and rather more below that. All are lower than you would hope for, even with factory ammo. You leave a lot of performance on the table with a 16 inch barrel. It seems the only way you get consistent ammo is handloading or sticking to the more expensive stuff.
    Regards Grandpamac.

    Out a 20inch CTR suppressed
    2595-2600fps
    Hornady Brass LP
    41.6gn H4350
    140 eldm
    0.09” jump

Factory Hornady 140 eldm match 2550fps

It is slow but really accurate. I read the slower speed could be due to the Tikka barrel having deep throat which I don’t really understand… I touch the land at 2.905” oal. Anyone tried to reduce the jump to see if speed improved?

Yeah mine are an older batch as I bought a few, so maybe they have been down loaded a little? Will shoot through them then will be replaced by a 130 eldm handload. Factory stuff is silly expensive at the moment.

If you're nelson based, head to Peak View Range over in the Whangamoas (https://www.peakviewrange.com/) Carl will be able to show you how to work out exactly how fast you are shooting without a chrono, and to a higher degree of accuracy than most chronographs read. You don't have to be a range member, visitors can still book - It just costs more in the long run if you head there more than 3 or 4 times. As a one off to get your head round it though its well worth the cost. There are LOTS of targets of various sizes out to 1k, ideal place to learn some long range shooting and work out exactly what your rifle (and ammo) is capable of.

Cheers all for your helpful replies. Actually stumbled upon the post for the loaner Sth Island Chronograph and have put my hand up for a crack, what a great scheme.
Looking forward to seeing how my Tikka measures up!
