    Anyone used a supressed/moderated shotgun?

    Hi all,
Basically the title , just wondering if anyone's used a supressed/moderated shotgun, more specifically a 12g but any information is welcome,

stumbled across a huspower branded 12g detachable moderator being sold over in the UK and was wondering if anyone has experience with supressed shotguns and whether they're worth it, at £180 its a heck of a lot cheaper than the A12 being sold here in NZ and the hushpower says it screws into the threaded choke,

doesn't seem to be much info about so thought I'd ask

To really reduce the noise you need subsonic ammo, which isn't easily available here.

I have a suppressed 12 gauge. It certainly brings the sound down. Similar to a suppressed centerfire rifle.
Subsonics aren't impossible to get but to be honest the suppressor mustn't be able to quite catch all of the gas as there is still a crack.
I definitely rate the suppressor and sooner not fire the gun without it. Does add a foot onto the overall length though.
Can't fire steel but can fire buckshot and solids which the A12s can't.
I do believe guncity sell the hushpower .410 suppressors for $600 or so.

Using target products cowboy action saloon loads it sounds like a "loose fart" in a suppressed 12 gauge I have handled. The std ammo has a Sonic boom in the same gun but us still quieter due to the reduction in muzzle blast

Thanks for all the replies so far, sounds like it might be worth the time to atleast experiment with a suppressed shotgun,

Not quite sure on the importing of a suppressor, I’ve emailed the local firearms office regarding that,

The 410 suppressor from the uk is only $250 odd nzd and I can’t imagine shipping would be more than $50 so hopefully I can import the 12g one without much hassle as it would be close to half the cost of buying within nz

    Hi,
I make a fully suppressed 410, as has been mentioned on here, in order to achieve a reasonable level of suppression the ammo must be running at sub-sonic speeds.

The design that I have developed has extensive porting of the barrel, so you just use STANDARD off the shelf ammo (2 1/2 or 3"), it internally drops the speed to below the speed of sound and other internal features suppress the sound further. The report is somewhat akin to what you hear from a well suppressed 22 running on subsonic ammo.

I did develop the same with a 12G and whilst it worked well was just not cost effective to produce.

We have a supply issue with the Optimas and Eternals that I was using so are currently in the process of developing a new model based on the Rossi Montenegro which should sorted early in the New year.

In theory yes, but I am still in the development stage with the Rossi and making production tooling etc. If the Rossi you have is not a current Montenegro (preferably with the 22" barrel) it is likely cheaper for me to supply a completely new gun than try to rework an old one.

If you send me your details, I can put you on the list to contact when we get top that stage fssprecision@gmail.com

    Thanks

That's really interesting, I would have thought a 12g would have been a lot more cost effective overall considering the relative differences in availability and price for .410 and 12g guns and ammo...

Yeah I get that, but even if the suppressed 12g is more expensive to buy overall it would work out cheaper very quickly. Some places don't appear to even stock .410 ammo of any sort now.

You find that as the bore size and gas volume increases the suppressor must increase accordingly, as I say I got one to work with standard 3" shells and it was QUIET but the gun weighed in at over 4KG and was really big. There really is a significant amount of work to do to really suppress a shotgun, just an end can does not achieve the level of suppression that I am happy with.

As I mention and is confirmed buy one of the guys on here, I aim to get similar suppression that you find with a suppressed 22 on subs BUT using standard off the shelf high velocity ammo.

    Cheers

it'll be interesting to see what happens,
it may get put in the too hard basket lol,
was just something I thought could be interesting as picking up a cheap second hand shotgun with interchangeable chokes and then the suppressor from the UK would of worked out somewhere around $650-$750 which is cheaper/ the same price as the A Tec suppressor itself
