AUCKLAND GONG SHOOT VIDEO

Yet another successful gong shoot has passed with success going again to Matt Ryan .We had many want to come but there mommy's didn't allow them out to play so we had only 6 shooters with 2 from the forum shooting and Rushy marking for us so 3 in total -slowly gaining enthusiast .
Again we had great weather and winds to make it a little trickier for all -I was impressed with the competency shown by some that are not seasoned veteran shooters to handle the conditions -still as noted last time a good spotter is invaluable to a shooter .
We laid signs out this time for easy spotting and took distance reading to help those without range finders.
End of day we had a damned fine bbque with Rushy supplying many satisfying sausages and me a few bottles of wine -all in all a successful shoot.
One thing did happen the following day the neighbor lent across the fences and bleated like a stuck pig that he had had enough of the 7 hours of noise --were in the country but his house is close --anyone know the legals on complaining people and the law ??

FAARRC I tell you I got radials on the thing and the diff lock didnt appear to be working going up a few slopes -stopped part way up and tried to come down and jacked knifed the trailer into my beautiful Disco's bumper bending perfection - I am most sad!!!

My excuse is that real life came first, and I had 17 Ewes that have been lambing this last week or so and I still have a couple left to lamb, so thats where I had to be at the weekend.... I know sheep stations don't bother too much, but one or two lambs drowned in the stream is high % of loss for me.

I would really would have liked to be there, but thats how it goes sometimes. Good to see that it all went off OK and hope to be up there soon to see if I can get my hit rate higher.

I'm am really gutted I couldn't make it. Bloody funny work hours. Maybe ask the neighbor when he is going to be away eg Labour weekend and arrange it for then. I will take time off if I have to to make it to the next one.

Nice video Brian. Good to see Matt is keeping up his practice. How many shoot positions did you have for the day? What time did the shoot finish up?

Gille we had 9 targets all shot from prone positions -I wanted to get positionally a little more freaky but time didn't allow and I couldn't find natural things to shoot from and see the targets .We started at 10 am and finished a round about 4pm -walked all the positions .With load more guys I think we would have to have two shooting progressively , that is once the gong stops moving of course although some of us shoot the moving gong for fun too.

You might find it a bit of a challenge to have a couple of people shooting at the same time. Most of that challenge will probably come in the scoring and just getting two people set up at the same time.

Had a couple of competitors ask about positional shooting at the last long range event i ran. Postional shooting often is at much shorter distances - distances that i don't want to use my steel targets. So i'll have to sort out some other "reactive" targets for short range use.

Having the gong moving while you are trying to shoot it just adds to the fun. Harry's was like that not only did you have to fire 5 in a minute while watching the wind you had to time your shots with the swing of the target!

Yes I put one where the target should have been but it was sideways at that moment so got the big miss. Had a great time even with the wind factor.

Hi Guys , yes it will happen again and I will post once I have spoken with Matt who helps organize this event with me . There is much to learn with these days shooting and Matt Ryan on the last few has learned me up good and proper :yuush:

El B I will be there with bells on. Could even take the day off to help set up

El B, I may have somewhere else to run it if need be.
Ran the rangefinder over it today and can get easy access spots up to 1000m for targets. We would only have to move for 300m the rest could be from one spot.

Barefoot - I absolutely adore your avatar.

Rushy/El B - keep us updated on the date etc. Would anyone be willing to let me crash at their place/collect me from the airport in the morning if I get the late night $29 flight from Wellies and crash on the floor at the airport?

I am sure that there will be something that we can do Dougie.
