    Aussie on Holiday!

Hi guys, I'm on holidays in your fine country from 2nd Jan 13, to 12 Jan 13, and I am wondering if you have any public shooting ranges with loan guns or shooting packages? I'm fairly interested in shooting some of the things us Australians aren't trusted with. I'm starting in Auckland, going south to Queenstown. Cheers for the help guys.

I might stick to Airsoft then, if I was there for longer I would look at buying a Cat A. I hope you all appreciate how amazing your gun laws are.

Hi Josh, I hope you enjoy your holiday. Can you expand on your comments about our gun laws for the uninitiated among us. What are the key differences with Aussie laws?
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms

josh, do you have an australian FAL?
if so you can get a visiters permit for $25 and go shooting on doc land.
    rushy,
the aussies lost the plot in 1996 and have now no access to semi autos(rimfire center or shotgun), pump action shottys, etc..... there is a real antigun attitude in aussie, even antihunter, if people hear your a hunter they look at you like your a baby murderer, whilst they chew on there mcburger.............
    hence why i am here

Bloody hell Greg that is completely over the top. Was it a knee jerk reaction to some incident that sparked the change or was it just the bunny loving tree huggers (read greeny's) applying pressure?

fuck its absolutely backwards in oz to get your gun license. apart from all the banned gun actions above, no silencers , supressors , semis (even .22s) . you need a 'genuine reason' to get a gun in your application e.g animal control and even then you need a 'suitable property size' e.g for a .223 you need at least 1000 acres, and 10,000 for a .308 sized gun. you cant have two similar calibers for a similar job e.g 22.250 for long range rabbits and .223 for foxes or whatever. In WA you cant hunt crown land-ever, so the pigs roams round of control but u can only hunt the fringes if you get permission from a private land owner. theres a cool off period in your gun application of 28 days, so you do all your tests pay for it send it off and its not considered for 28 days, it goes on...

I just wanna shoot sporting clays here. I enquired about getting a licence and was told I had to do a cse on how to use a shotgun, rimfire and centrefire. Experience counts for nothing, you still have to do it. I move around heaps so it is just not worth the friggin hassle.
I will just bludge a shotgun off mates that are here who shoot regularly in NZ.

Hi Josh, I'm pretty sure that this crowd in Christchurch, GUNWORKS | Centrefire Rifle Sound Suppressor Specialists & Avant-garde Gunsmithing does hire out rifles and would be worth an ask. I can't find it on the site but I'm certain that they at least used to. Good luck.

(In my best Aussie accent) Fair suck of the sav fellah's I nearly fell off the eski face first into the barbie over that lot. (Now back in my Kiwi accent) I now have two reasons not to ever shift over to Aus. The draconian gun laws and the sheila's voices. (Back into the Aussie twang) Struth mate just goes to show what a bonza place Noo Zilland is!!!

    Gotta love Noo Zeelind.
She loves the free fresh wind in her hair; Life without care. She's broke but it's oke; that's why the lady is a tramp.

My application for my FAL is in ATM, I'm with the Australian Army, and have posted around a couple of different states in the last couple of years, which is why I haven't gotten mine yet. My main interest is in pistol shooting, and a bit of plinking. If anyone wants to take me for a shoot I'd be much obliged, and willing to pay cash!
