Hard to shoot prone without one.

If its guns, tits or tyres it's going to cost you lots of money
And with one if you have a flexy stock bags etc much easyer
"Hunting and fishing" fucking over licenced firearms owners since ages ago.
308Win One chambering to rule them all.
There good ,yes there are pro's and con's , use it when its needed you wont go wrong ,i will say not all Bi-pods are in the same league thou .
what brand would you recomend/avoid. i have never used one before always used sling wrap technique
As others have mentioned they have pros and cons, if the barrel is floated and the stock is good and stable it will minimalise variations but rifles recoil differently depending on how much grip/pressure they have meaning a bipod can be a liability on different surfaces, rock, grass etc as it will generally be loaded differently dependant on available grip (can be negated with technique, different feet etc). The sling method you mentioned negates the variations the bipod can expose you to. At the end of the day both require an appreciation of technique to minimalise variables in shooting. I find rifles with less recoil less effected, last time I had my 7mm mag out I was shooting 1000m from my day pack
You wouldnt mindputting a link up to the model you use would you? Ive had enought of trying gear and finding it unsuitable, would rather just buy the exact thing that will work and do what I want it to.
I have a few Harris bipods, my groups were a mess at the range one day, sat the feet on a sheet of carpet to get some grip and it all came right again. The spikes can help get some grip and load it up a bit, like the sound of being able to load up the versapod, keep it loaded for every shot and you know things will be (should be) equal
Did you get one from the 50 or 70 series? the 50s are only 159 the 70s are 299, the 70s are all steel so from your comments I'm thinking it must be the 71? I would be after either a 52 or 72, would be keen on combining freight if its worth while
I think I will look at an alternative mounting system for them though, having the sling attached to the adapter looks as though it will hang way off your shoulder and not ride properly, something like the accurracy international mount epoxyed into the stock or an adaptation of the ruger mount (been looking at the catalogue now lol) then could use the original sling stud for the sling without the bipod biting into your shoulder

I will be the opposite, I like my harris have about 4 of them, I have bipod spikes on one and man what a difference, grips really well and i find i can lean on it great and it shoots good.
The day pack is another good option that i also use but im sighted in on the bipod and a jacket under the butt of the rifle.
I find it more consistant then off the day pack
I had harris because I absolutely hate the attachment method of the Versapod/clones. Have gone to cheapo $30 dealextreme Versapod clones now and am getting the pins to put in the front of the stock. True QD, much better to lean into, much better for angles, panning targets, etc.
