A blast
It was Rambo 6mmrem that gave me the heads up on the Awakeri black powder metallic silhouettes shoots, so as the wife was getting cabin fever and wanting to get away, "lets go to Awakeri hot pools camping ground dear ", she didn't know it yet but she was going to be my spotter at the range. The best laid plans always go tit`s up," I can't see a thing with all the smoke you are making". The spotting was not going to help anyway as I couldn't hit the rear end of an elephant, those dam silhouettes at 200m are had to see with all the smoke, that's my excuse, :omg: . But for the first time here is a pic of my Sharps in full roar, had a real blast.

That's 60grs of 2f Swiss spitting out a 410gr bullet, all I see is a great cloud of smoke and a thump in the shoulder, I`m shoer the dam chickens duck.

Great stuff.
It must give immense satisfaction to shoot something you have built from scratch yourself.

A little moisure in the air always makes for a denser smoke cloud, great photo and bloody nice looking range

Yep it`s great fun shooting my home made Sharps and at 50m it`s not bad group wise, but that's with 3031 powder, black fowls up the barrel I bit so group gets larger, specially at longer range. But that's to be expected with a home made barrel, I put down 59 rounds for two chickens at 50m and one ram at 200m , this calls for lot`s of range practise to set the sights, specially at 200m.

Oops, before some one spots my mistake I was shooting at the turkeys, the chickens at 50ms are shot standing offhand , bit of a mission with a 12-1/2lb rifle, but I did get two. The setup is five targets left and same on the right, with one extra swinging on a frame. You can have as many shots at this one, it`s for sighting in, once you start shooting your five targets you shoot all five. There was about 20 shooters with a variety of black powder rifles all having a great day. Then it`s back to the camp for a soak in the hot pools and in to Whakatane for a feed of fish and chups, it`s a hard job , but I like doing it.

Accuracy maybe improved by using the right hand to engage trigger..... :)

Glad you enjoyed it doug my shoulder was pretty sore afterwards my trapdoor carbine is much lighter
But i was pretty happy with how it shot
Yep they have a rather nice set up down there
Ive shot on some pretty nice ranges over the years
Including some Olympic grade indoor 22 and airgun ranges this range must be one of the nicest set ups
Certainly the nicest range ive shot black powder on
They shoot everything there from pistols to shotgun and everything in between
