The police have said that all MSSA cannot be modified to be legal.

But permanently disabling it turns it into a paperweight...? No licence needed...?

Surely that would require some legislation to back up, despite what they are saying.

Its on the parliament website I read today, and also referred to on the Police one. You can't modify firearms to fit new requirements so that's out, no negotiation, end of story. As for legislation, its coming... Clearly all semis are gone except shotguns that don't have removable mags and no more than 5 in the tube and .22's (at this stage).

They've also taken aim at "sniper" rifles. I'm picking your .338's and above will be gone too, possibly smaller calibers that sit around that ballpark too perhaps? All speculation till the govt. puts it to paper though so just a waiting game for us all.

Got a link to where you saw that on the parliament website?

Police website isn't law, and since they have got the wrong information on their main FAQ page, I'm not not convinced they have a legal backing to stop you disabling a firearm.

It maybe on the website, but unless it has been passed into law, then it is not law. Provision of OIC does not give that ability either.

OIC does not stipulate "hand in" either, just says that rifles with this feature are now classed as MSSAs. Follow up legislation may be more wordy though.
