NZ Police do not recognize deactivated firearms and regard them as live. This is at odds with the Arms Act, and I have been deactivating and certifying guns as 'non-firearms' for many years. I have had a couple of visits and threats of legal action from the Police but I have continued to do it, and I am still here! When I certify a 'non-firearm' rest assured that it is completely incapable of being rebuilt, despite looking totally original externally. In the end though, I have my doubts that the final lump of wood and metal has any value beyond nostalgic memory!
