BOP shooters / hunters

So the Te Puke rifle club "hunters class" shoot is coming up in about a month, any of you local guys keen to shoot it?

This year there is a bonus 10 points at each distance if you can hit the deer target. For those interested in trying long range shots with their favourite rifle this is a great chance to see just what your rifle is capable of.

If you have a new rifle or interested to validate your bullet drops at known distance this is the perfect place. It starts out at the 300 yd mark and once you are "on paper" there it is not difficult to elevate back at the 500 and 600 yd.

Be warned though, it can be addictive. I shot it last year and now I own a 308 target rifle :wtfsmilie:

I’m definitely keen to give it a go at some point, but realistically with all the health stuff going on it won’t be this round.

Thats bad luck @Cigar, just for any others that are in less than best health, theres no walking involved, drive to the mound's. And you get to lay down while you're shooting!!

@Sideshow theres usually someone rocks up just for a look and to fire their rifle, no prejudices in this club, you want to shoot ....so do we, doesnt matter what it is. So long as it fits within the guidelines for the range use

With a welcoming club like that there's no wonder that housing is so expensive in Tauranga:thumbsup:

Well what do you know, I actually have that weekend off. Will come for a shot. Will have to dust the cobwebs off the long gun, hasn't been out of the safe for a while

I live close so I will come up for a looksee and shot.

24th Feb I think. Been to a few now and a lot of fun. Bbq and b session at the end too. Good bunch of people. Getting my 30-06 ready :)

Weather forecast isn't that flash, still on if wet?

This Sunday is the 24th, Start time is 9.30 am but shooters need to be at the range around 8.30 to enter, collect their cards and have their rifles scrutineered.
Please note that the round count for the course of fire has changed to 32 rounds required.

The forecast at the moment is for a few showers, and if that is the case then we will live with it, Not a problem! That being said , most forecasts are as reliable as a two-bob watch, and should be not be taken seriously. Expect fine and sunny or sopping wet.

Really looking forward to the deer target and what people think of it. I am sure it will open a few eyes as to when and if you should shoot at that distance.
If its a bit drizzly it may well add to the realism of it.
I'll be squaded for when theres no rain ... naturally :):P

Well the day started overcast with a bit of light rain but soon cleared to be a good day , bit of wind to make things interesting. It was good to meet up with a few more forum members. A special thanks to Woody for helping me out on the range. if you are keen to join in come along to their events and don't worry about how you will shoot it is a fun day to try your rifles out and the guys and girls their are willing to help you out as much as they can. I managed to validate my drop chart out to the 600 yards and it seems to be pretty good, also it was interesting to see first hand how the wind effects the bullet. When I shot the two 600 yard events I first used 10.25 MOA for the drop adjustment and then on the second round at the same range I had to use 11 MOA. The wind was blowing up range and it obviously had an effect on the rise of the bullet. Then you had to contend with an ever changing side winds, sometimes strong other times not so. A great day finished off with BBQ and beer.

Was good to put another face to a name Mooseman, great to share a few stories.

Managed to be squaded when the rain was shining instead ...but then so was everyone else :thumbsup:

Thanks for the write up Mooseman, pity about the weather forecast I think it scared a few shooters off which was a shame as it was a lovely day.

Great pics 17brno, its a great way to meet everyone and get a bit of practice in on a day with shifty winds , made things interesting.

Bugger, just looked at this and realised I missed it by a couple of days, still looking for somewhere in BOP to do validations. ☹️

Perfect place to try your loads, very helpful. As there weren't many shooters the range was offered to us to do a bit of practise if we wanted, obviously on a busy day that wouldn't happen. The electronic scoring system they have is brilliant, shows point of impact, velocity at target, group size and it's instant straight after the shot.

We are open on Saturdays from about 9.00am you are most welcome to come and have a shoot ,we shoot 300,500 and 600 yards depending on the program, we also have a 100yard range to zero your rifle before shooting on our electronic targets

I spent Sunday up the hill at the BOP NZDA range sighting in a new rifle/scope and doing some load development, the benchrest was okay post-surgery but shooting prone might have been pushing it.
