BOP TECT park rage officer wanted.

    Hi Guys.

I'm trying to be a hunter, or deerstalker more like.

I have ignorantly chosen a rifle and brought it off trade me (Kimber Classic 7mm-08, it's beautiful!) and now I need to learn how to shoot it. I've joined the BOP Deerstalkers club and now I need access to the range. I've been told I have to go to 3 open days and then I'll get my range key. The open days are the last Sunday of every month so I have to wait 3 months before I can properly learn to shoot.

Is there a range officer out there that would be prepared to take me to the range & teach me sooner than this? I'd be prepared to cover their ammo/petrol costs or just straight up pay for your time.

I got my gun licence and then had to have shoulder surgery so I've been waiting long enough all ready. Very keen to learn how to shoot safely & accurately, but another 3 months waiting is a bit harsh.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks guys.

The list of certified range officers is on every branch monthly newsletter. Call around and you should be able to do your three inductions in no time.

Then its $50 for your annual range access ticket and a $20 one off fee for a key and you are good to go!

    Hey @Bryan,
What is happening here is, @Ricochet has follow all the basic instructions and rules to how practice safe shooting(at least in my view), what he is asking for help is if anyone in your area who "already" has the keys and is a "qualified" RO that can take him with and under his supervision to teach and guide him on the learning to shoot thing.
I do know everybody has a life but many of us sometimes have a moment or special day to go for a shoot, what would be great is if this "special" person could invite him to tag along and give him some advise. We know we can go somewhere else as "suggested" previously and go for it but in my understand he is trying to do the right thing and learn in the right way.

Anyway, i already wrote too much, hope someone in the area can help the fellow friend and give him some shooting advise.

All the best to you guys in the NI.

@PERRISCICABA I thought he was looking at working towards getting his three inductions done to then acquire his own range key and having easy access to the range. The inductions are just going over the range's standing orders and safety protocols, no firearm training though.

The open days are pretty good for beginners, as the Range officers are good at providing guidance and support for the less experienced attendees.

You are both right. Yes, I need someone to take me there 3 times and sign me off so I can practice when I like. But I also need that person to teach me the fundamentals.

I am heading out for a pighunt/look about Sunday if you wanted to jump aboard. Will be some range time available. I have some secret spots to let a few go.
Bring that kimber along and we will go kick it. Busy Saturday unfortunately.
    I'm Rotorua. Pm if keen.

Again, "I love this forum"! in this thread you can see how many good "Buggers" we are in here, all for the great of good "shooting"! LOL.

Thank you @Bryan for the clarification and there we see we both were in the right direction. @Danny, good on you for the invitation, i hope you can help our friend.

Go through the list. Either phone or TXt them. Just say if your going up can I meet you there.
I didn't go to 1 public day. I just met r.o's up there. I was done with my three inductions in no time.
Usually weekends are busy. So I go during the week. And mostly the others I might see there are usually r.o's.
I'd take you but I'm not a range officer.
