I've contacted a few clubs and most wernt all that friendly to a new guy with his first 308 rifle. So i'm looking for some good people and a nice range to get started at in welly. The rifle I have just finished is a Ruger American, Timney trigger, Glades Armory tact bolt handle, harris bipod, and a Vortex Viper PST 2.5-10x44 ffp. Bit of background, I grew up on a farm in masterton and shot mostly 22 (old 1982 ruger 10/22, my pops, Still have it too) currently working as a Industrial Designer and product developer in wellington.

Try the Upper Hutt deer stalkers. Its only $100 ish a year and you can use the range anytime it isnt booked.
