Ive got similar set up as mine came factory std at 21"....I wish it was longer say 26" as the velocity would be much better. its no big deal to carry can in daybag while heading up through the scrub and chuck it on once open country is reached.....then barrel length doesnt matter if it sticks out long, you wont be taking many standing shots either, most will be over daybag etc.carried on sling across your front the extra barrel length will just poke up above shoulder and not be an issue.
the .270 deserves a long barrel to get the best out of it,if mine ever wears out it will be replaced with longer version ( with the few shots it needs to kill cleanly that wont be any time soon).
there are quite a few older rifles out there for sale now that would be very hard to go past if you dont mind a little extra rifle weight...which helps no end in keeping recoil down. trademe seems to always have a nice old BSA or similar just begging for a new home. the money saved would buy good glassware and a recrown when fitting can could well bring the accuracy back up to more than enough.
