Thread: cow proof?

Hi gang
I made a gong hanger.
The waratahs and back stakes can be driven in at least another 300mm,the only weld is a 90 degree on the horizontal angle iron and everything else is m8 nuts and bolts.
The gong itself is only 4mm thick,this is more of a test of the hanger.

Wonder if you could insulate it and stick a 12v battery on it..... Only thing to keep the buggers off it. Could have lights and sirens if you hit it as well

You'd want your gong to swing. I have one chained between two 75mm angles, learnt a couple of things.400 x 400 x 20 MS plate is too heavy so I had to bash the angles deeper.
To keep the plate from bottoming out the chains are pretty tight. I've found even at 500 yds the 300 WM has been causing the chains to fail where the links are welded up.
Good luck for trying to make anything cow proof. Maybe tie fence tape all over it?

Nothing will ever be 100% cow proof, a structure like that just screams "rub on me" to a cow, in fact any foreign object screams that to a cow. We had Ravensdown rep out to take some soil samples a year or so back and she calls me up as she entered the farm "all good if I just park my Ute somewhere and I will walk the farm and take samples as I go?"

Dumbass parked her Ute (flash new Ranger) in the paddock with the cows in it... by the time she returned it had several large dents in it, both the side mirrors smashed off, the canopy had been pushed off it's mounts and was hanging off one side and it had a broken tail light. Shit was hilarious.

If you weld the chains on the back of the plate about 40mm down they don't tend to fracture off and the slight downward angle of the face puts the shrapnel down into the ground.

The two strips above the gong are conveyor belt.
I may use a 300mm wide strip to hang it instead,we’ll have to see how long it lasts.
I would like to use a countersunk bolt but the plate isnt chamfered.

Beef cows are amateurs... Dairy cows would slay the shit out of that in 2 minutes flat haha

The gongs look like excellent back scratchers duckdog, maybe thats why they leave the poles alone.

I use a batten across two standards with the gong hanging on no 8 wire. Bulls rub them down but it's easy to whip around on the bike and fix them. Some they leave alone if there's trees nearby.

cows will rub on anything, years back i was at the top of an AM radio mast when a cow used one of the guy wires to itch itself, damn thing started swaying slightly but when you are at the top with your workmate and zero safety gear it feels like a bloody earthquake
