Thread: Customs rifle barrels clearance

Hey guys. First of all, I am asking this question here as I am done calling NZPost and Customs. I gave up!!!! Really!
I call NZPost about my barrels that have arrived and they say I have to contact Customs. I then call Customs and they say
I have to contact NZPost. I am in limbo right now. I have been calling them since the 27th, every day.

I would like hand from someone here that has experience with that sort of thing. They said a P notice number will be generated, but
barrels got in NZ on the 27th of Nov and no such a P notice number for customs clearance yet. Called Mainfreight as customs broker
and transport and they will call me back (hopefully) tomorrow, the 13th. There was a custom broker I have called that looked like he was
playing Tetris and I was being a pain in the ass calling them... maybe my bad accent? Dont know.

Well, any input from someone that has gone this way will be appreciated.

I contacted my MP who help get my goods after two months stuck in customs / NZ Post Auckland.

Most likely still a massive backlog at customs so its a case of wait until customs contact you with the P number unfortunately.

Mate it has only been two weeks......

I paid fees for a couple of actions yesterday...they got here on 14-09-19

And today some barrels that got here on 03-11-19.....I still have plenty in there that have been here longer that the actions.....

Yes I have supplied all the required import permits....some brass doesn't even need one & is still in there.....

I will be emailing the customers minister & others shortly, like I did a few months ago now.....

Really getting sick of this...shouldn't have to bother them about this stuff

I had some items held by customs in Auckland.
Rand them and arranged to take my permits to customs in Christchurch.
The guys in CHCH were happy so they arranged to have them relocated from AK to CHCH.
Got a call 2 days from the customs in CHCH that they are there for me next time I'm in town

They have been bloody helpful and I'm happy in the circumstances.

But I'm sorry for the problems @xring has been having.

I have just applied for more permits to import on line and now that I know the system I'm less worried about things

And it means being bloody organised
Some jobs will be very slow to get done

Yeah it's all a bit unorganized at the moment, you kind of have to be real patient. All the different systems don't seem to be cohesive/integrated...I had paid my GST and had an authorized acknowledgement. Ended up just going to the centre and presenting everything and picking up item no problem. Customs were good, NZ post rang to apologize a few weeks later at the shamozle it currently is. NZ Police are still sending me letters saying need to pay GST etc despite item long picked up.

My take is, they've changed the laws to probably at least 10 fold work of customs arms officers. They haven't(purposely)given them any extra help to process.
They on Salary, turn up and do what they can in their shift like a good govt worker.
It's all quite cynical by Clement & Co to fuck as every way they can until we oust them from their high paid job and bring back democracy.

thanks everyone here! appreciated. i am not complaining about the time that takes to get things out of the customs or speeding up things, but about that no one gives me a straight/correct answer there.
yes, gotta wait for someone to call me or email or whatever so I can take the right steps. i am just worrying about having to pay storage for something I don't have control over. let me know if i am wrong.

would someone refer me a reputable broker for this here in AKL?

I had some mags held on 30 September. No notification from customs but knew from the parcel tracking. Emailed customs, no response. Then made multiple phone calls which never got answered, left several messages and also emailed again with no response over the following few weeks. Customs already held the import permit from a delivery earlier in the year when I had other mags delivered post Christchurch terror attack.

Customs have Published Service Standards and a complaints process.

I emailed a complaint on 16/11 and had a reply on 18/11 acknowledging receipt of it. I also included an OIA request seeking the number of packages held by customs believed to contain firearms parts for the six month period prior to 30 September 2019 and of that number how many addressees were not contacted by customs within their specified service standard timeframe. They have 20 working days to respond to the complaint and 30 for the OIA. Still waiting for the outcome of both.

I did get an email from the arms officer asking for the permit, despite it being clearly stated they have it already which I pointed out again. This was on 19/11 nothing since then.

I’ll be making further OIAs after the holidays.

So no matter how much is on one permit it can only be used one time, even if only for one item out of many...

Customs use to just fill in the number of items on the import permit until it was full or it expired after a year & was sent back to the holder

That was a great system, easy for customs & the holder....

Thanks for that. Was the change published anywhere by police or customs do you know? My permit was applied for and issued after Christchurch. It was customs who told me they would hang on to the permit for the additional parts. What a joke.

IIRC it is in the info Police provide that comes with the import permit

It isn't particularly user friendly as far as reading goes

That was a great system, easy for customs & the holder....

This is what it was like about 4-5 years ago. Then you applied for mulitable permits with 1 item on them. Then police started moaning about that, and it reverted to the current system. And now it seems its reverted back again. Still on the bright side, they reissue a permit pretty quickly now.......:-)

Get on the email and politely threaten to report their poor service to the minister in charge of customs.
