Cutting a thread into flutes of barrel

    Hi

    3 questions:

    1. I have a 243 finnlight and want to shorten the barrel to 18 inches (or less) and put a Dan Can on it (Gen 4). this will require cutting a thread deeper than the flutes. Will this mean going too deep into the barrel and i get barrel expansion and potential loss of accuracy (or is this bullsh*t?).

Dans suppressor is 80 mm ahead of the barrel so cutting 50mm gives me a net gain in length of only 30 mm. I'm not worried about a bit of velicity loss and the suppressor will be a permanent attachment so couldn't care less about the flutes going to the end of the barrel.

    2. Do you think their will be enough "meat" left at the thread end of the barrel to rebarrel to 7 08 and not end up having very little barrel left? (hope that makes sense!)

    3. Will a 7mm suppressor (in preparation for a rebarrel) adequately suppress the 243?

    Cheers

    Tom

Don't think that 'permanently on' is a good idea, you run the risk of corrosion at the muzzle if it's not taken off at all. . .

You're right. I meant it will be hunted with the suppressor on and removed for cleaning / storage etc.

You already have a perfectly good 7-08. Don't fuck a perfectly good calibre (243) and have two of the same gun.
The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds

I had Dan shorten and can a fluted R15 barrel and it wasn't a problem for him.
The 7mm can will be fine

Buy a DPT can instead for a fraction of the price !

compared my hardy ar can to my mates dpt can and the dpt was a mile quieter!

if your wanting it as a bush rifle idea its not such a bad idea but as an idea, buy one of remingtons new carbine in 300AAC which has a 16.75" barrel instead?or a ar in that cal? or are you absolutely dead set on your 243?
