Theirs plenty of brass around

7 Saums far from "dead" its the most efficent of all the 7mm magnums listed 7 prc will see heaps of support most 7 mags will be 9 5 twist which is good enough cant go wrong with any .284 options their about 284 times better than the 6.5s
I am totally biased. The 7saum is the winner.

Just sold a rem mag and went to the hells canyon LR to with the 1:8 twist so I can run some 195bergers just about to do some load development if it doesn't tick the boxes I'll be going to a 7mm prc once they are a bit more common
Try 180g eldm and 162 eldm as well
Perhaps not ideal but when I finally get to shoot at 1,000 yards, hopefully later this year, it will be with a 7mm SAUM and Remington brass. It is what I have. The rifle is a Sendero bought new in 2004 with dreams of cruising the tops, pinging deer at long range, for me that is. Regrettably dreams are what they were so I will settle for long range targets.
Regards Grandpamac.
Owned a 7mm Magnum, currently own a 7mm SAUM. The end result on paper or on animals has remained the same. Just got the SAUM as I found a model 7 factory rifle so thought was something cool to have.
7mms are a good flavour

@Southerner223 what are those three? Is that 7mm Saum, 08? and rem mag?
Sourcing components for comp shooters who shoot shit loads of rounds compared to hunters who setup and shoot enough to get dialled in and then hunt is a completely different kettle of fish. If you are a hunter then SAUM is easy to source stuff for.
use what you have got....experiment with different projectiles...the .277 has been knee capped for years with piss poor projectile choice/selection but its finnally playing catchup to some degree, loads of folks have had great results with the 145 hornady jobbies and if you look around folks were doing some reasonably good things out reasonably long with std 140-150 grn projectiles long before that AND if your reloading components still easy to get.
now if your talking longer range hunting, the difference between what youve got and what your looking at is academic anyway as you will be dialing so another click or two means nothing.
A 7mm/6.5prc seems to be a lot of work for nothing more than a slightly shorter 284w.
I still think 284win velocities are the sweet spot for hunting with 162s in NZ.
Anything more is fine for geeking out on ballistics but realistically I need to move to Utah or Western Australia before it really means anything in the real world.
I just loaded up some 215 hybrids for a 300prc and while looking for load data read a thread about the 215 in both 3006 and long barrelled 308s. Made me think that even referring to calibre is pointless these days.
The Rem mag is still a great performer for what we hunt in NZ, one of many 7mm's I've owned over the years but I'm very looking forward to my soon arriving 7PRC to turn up.
Someone on here mentioned that there wasn't much difference between the 6.5 & 7PRC but by my calculations theres over a 25% increase according to their H2O capacity
6.5CM - 52.5, 6.5 PRC - 62.0, 7mm PRC - 78.0 & 7mm RM 82.0

All factory Hornady "precision" ammo apart from the 6.5PRC ( but similar to factory )
PS - Just a couple of observations, I'm on the fence with the 6.5 PRC, I've had a couple & I love the cartridge, it's great fun to shoot but not sold on it's killing performance & while I still like the Rem mag, down side being a magnum the projectile in factory ammo are seated very deep to mag fit, something that modern cartridges seem to have improved on.
Yip standard saami handicap their with the old faithfull twist it up right with a long mag and a custom throat and its still the king of the mountains, im with you re the prc killing my 6 5 saum wrecked shit huge internal damage but kills were delayed compared to the 7s and 30s . Theirs alot of digits between 143 and 180
Ive often wondered why the belt hasnt been carried on right up to shoulder..giving a fatter external with same internals...much stronger case but longer case life and ability to handle higher pressures
Because the belt already supports the weakest part of the case surrounding the primer pocket. The rest of the case body is supported by the chamber wall, providing your sizing die is set properly and the necks annealed it will be the web expanding that kills the case.
I've been playing with a 7prc for a week or 2 now.
My new long range rig and it's first kill a red at 40 yards, not the test I was thinking of.
That's the entry hole, you just can't compare the power of the PRC shooting 175-180 to a 6.5 shooting 143 weight.
I'm just starting to load for it now trying 2217 and 2225 both are looking like giving me just over 2800fps with the 180 from a 20".https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...118d144486.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...e1fa243312.jpg

The 6.5 PRC cases Iv weighed have held 68gr H20. The norma and Lapua 6.5x284 hold the same 68gr + or - a point , hence my opinion the that a wildcat 7mm/ 6.5 PRC would be a waste of time when a standard 284w will be its ballistic twin . Also makes me wonder why the 6.5 PRC even came to be when its just a slightly fatter 6.5x284 and only .12" shorter.
The 7mm PRC is a different beast as you stated.
Fucking around with Wildcats is part of the fun of having firearms, I'll be very interested in how the 7mm / 6.5 PRC goes, it could be a great short action cartridge
I'm no expert on anything to do with cartridge design ( I leave that up to people with far more time n money lol ) but of the necked up wildcats I've had, most perform well above their weight, some include the 6mm 204 ( awesome fun cal & Wallaby killer ) 30-06 Terminator Improved Max ( a 280ai necked up & doing a 178 @ 2975fps boomfa ) & the 30arx ( a 6.5 Grendel popped up to 30cal ) & they all kick arse
Yeah I don't see the 7 - 6.5 PRC setting the world on fire, a 30cal - 6.5 PRC might be a great bush round though.
But then it probably already has a doppelganger
For someone like me who is all over the place, the 7mm prc gives more than a rem mag for no input. The factory ammo should give me everything i want and more for my long range thar and red hunts.
Ammo all stocked, just waiting on the bloody gun!

Quite the investment $$$.
@mcche171 did you go for a factory 7prc or custom rifle?
I see Bergara and Tikka still don't have 7prc out. I read for Tikka at least the European equivalent of Saami was the holdup in approving it.
I will eventually go factory. I was looking at a full custom, but life got in the way and a couple of options will not be far away. (Springfield and Christensen)
I can confirm we have no info at our end re release of Sako or tikka 7mm PRC yet. It will happen, but Hornady only submitted the round to CIP (European Saami) on the week of Shot Show, so protected the US market for 8 months. I wouldn’t expect to see a factory option until middle of next year at the earliest
Easier to get components for the prc. I know lots of the f class guys are shifting to the 7 6.5 prc in place of 284 for component availibility alone.
The extra 0.14 inches of length gives you enough room to shoehorn it into a short action with 162s without sacrificing a bunch of powder space. Good option for somone looking to make a short action work.
The 6.5 prc is the 6.5 saum GAP renamed and tweeked a bit so that hornady did go straight away with George’s Gardner ( proprietary?)wildcat.
I have several 7mm
It is my go to hunting rifle of choice
I have hunted a
.270
.284 lever
7mm 08
7x64
7mm RM
I really like the look of a 7PRC
But it's horses for courses
My bush gun is a 7mm08 (250-300m)
My tops the 7mmRM (650m...maybe)
I don't "target" shoot
I hunt
But I put enough rounds down the range to be comfortable
I reload...don't buy factory anymore...thats half/halve the fun.
I'm the limiting factor and my hunting rifles...not safe queens... are suppressed
It really depends on what you want to do/do you reload/ what is your hunting style
Despite what others say....for me...as I've got more experience...there's no 1 gun

Yep the 7saum was a 2002 creation and the rcm a 2008 creation and the gap 2012. It is kind of What was first , the chicken or the egg…
In my precedent post I meant that “ so hornady did not go straight away to …”
