or as has been said..put out paper plate..milk jug and shoot it..then increase range and try again...increase range and try again...when you cant consistantly hit it anymore with first shot...well Matey potatey you have reached range where you can no longer ethically take shots at animal and expect to kill it cleanly.
you will have maybe fired 20 round of ammunition,depending on how good or ambitious you were in distance...you WILL have gotten better idea of real world bullet path. and you will have possibly woken yourself up to how good or piss poor your shooting actually is.
having a ballistics calculater tell you if you poke 35 clicks into scope to enable projectile to precisely hit centre of target is all well and good...IF AND ONLY IF you can shoot well enough to put it there.
