Electronic earmuffs. Peltor SportTac vs MSA vs basic models

Hi, Can anyone tell us about the relative merits of these two expensive brands and experiences with $100 models available in some hunting shops ?

What should we look for ?
Is there much difference in performance for blocking out shot noise or clarity of speech ?

For me it is as much about comfort as it is about noise reduction.
At an IPSC match you are wearing glasses and muffs all day for a couple days generally. Wearing glasses with bad muffs all day is bloody painful. Especially for my odd shaped head.

Having tried a few other brands the MSAs with gel filled cups just work for me.
They have excellent noise reduction and electronics.
Probably the most used muffs I have noticed among pistol shooters.
If only wearing a set for a short range session I don't think comfort is too much of an issue so other brands my be suffice.

    Thanks R93.
Interested to hear about the glasses. When I use them, it lets half the noise in. So, I'll look for a gel cup. I've been told I'll be able to see better with glasses ...

I have the Sportac and can only give general comments on them as I haven't tried the others.
They are comfortable to wear, better than any of the cheap non-electronic ones I have.
I don't think they are grade 5, but they do seem to block more noise than my cheap grade 5's, possibly because they fit better. Depending on the situation I would consider using earplugs as well.
Clarity of voices, etc is great, nice and clear, even for me who struggles sometimes hearing what is said on the VHF. Volume is adjustable to way better than normal hearing - I could literally hear the cat walking across the lawn towards me!

Hunting? Pistol Range? Rifle Range? Work site?

Try before you buy for fit as everyone has a different shaped head. Try with glasses.

I find electronic earmuffs on the rifle range can be too good, they cut on the noise of each shot, but you can also hear all the gossip from the chatterboxes behind the mound.

I've just pushed the button on some Sordins to hopefully get them before 1 Dec GST on everything. It was a toss up between the Peltors & Sordins but went for the Sordins due to comments about comfort.
