Expected accuracy for unsupported positional shooting

Let's say target at 100m, standard 4P (prone, sitting, kneeling, standing)

No support other than your own body - so no sling, bipod, bags etc. Just good old traditional shooting.

For each of the 4 positions, what would your realistic accuracy expectation be for a 5-shot group ?

On the prone side, I would be pretty happy with 4 MOA (fist sized group) for 5 shots at 100m

A lot depends upon the build, flexibility, strength and overall health of the shooter.

    I hear you @Woody

We have a "geriatrics" shoot at Service Rifle each year where there is almost no position changes, and unlimited time to get up or down from any of the positions . A lot of the old guys can still shoot a mean looking kneeling stage, they just take a while to get down, and longer getting up

My questions is not about time pressure. Let's call it unlimited time.

Good way of looking at it Yup, if I can put 5 shots into A4 page for standing string I'd be happy.

That's 8" by 11", so call it 10 MOA or there abouts

I can still shoot sub 2 moa prone unsupported. Can't kneel at all. Sitting cross legged and crossed forearms used to be 1moa but now unable to attain that flexibility so only about 5 moa now. Standing, yes, about 5moa when younger but now 10 or so.

I have no idea but am prepared to give it a go and report back. I'm getting old and creaky like Woody and the kneeling would be a challenge but if sitting off your knees is acceptable then I'm in.

I was brought up to always find a rest of some sort.
So over those postions totally unsupported Id be happy with one of the bifolding barn doors.

I went to the NI NZDA shoot a couple of years back and the best shooter put 9 out of 10 shots into a 35mm group at 100m. The rogue shot opened the group to 60mm. This was standing.

It was using a sling as per the 4p rules. Her other positions were like the tight 9 or better. I went up to Taupo on Sunday to make a quiet re entry to range shooting. Various joint problems stopped me shooting prone and kneeling so I shot 3 lots of 5 sitting and one lot standing. The first lot sitting was ropey but the second and third were better. The best shots were in about 80mm with all the sitting on an A4 which after a lay off of several years I was quite pleased. The standing, however are best forgotten. Clearly practise is required which I can do at home. The rifle is a Tikka T3x Lite with a 10 power Bushnell scope. No sling. Load 69 grain Sierra HPTBT and 25 grains of AR2206H.
    Regards Grandpamac.

RifleKraft have this target to shoot and send in.

You can determine your accuracy in each position individually or do all of them in a row, standing kneeling, seated and prone for 3 rounds to determine your grouping ability.

8 MOA might be a bit optimistic for unsupported standing

Using that with a tripod and all the other cool toys, maybe...
