    Farmstay with Range

Can anyone recommend a farmstay where one can to shoot out to 300m?

I don't get enough opportunity to shoot plates at longer distances.

    Basic accommodation is fine.

Ideally within 3 hours driving from Auckland.

Is it Junction Rd in the Halcombe/Cheltenham area or something else? Im familiar with Wanganui but I don't know a Junction Rd there.
I used to have a mate that had access to a place on Rangitatau East Rd where there are long-range gongs, but we're not in contact anymore.

If the shooting is free but you only pay for your accomodation, I don't see the problem.

I would not see it as a problem, however under the new laws, the authorities may see this differently.

That would depend wholly on whether the Police consider the reason for the accommodation to be access to the range or other....and we know how discretion works so well there.....If you are staying there in order to use the range then certification OSH etc will now apply. If it just so happens that you are allowed to use the range while you are there and you did not travel there to use it, you may need to explain why you brought your rifles with you.......

All together it sounds like a great way to end up with problems and lawyers bills...

I’m thinking about building a cabin with long range shooting available, but I very much doubt I’d bother trying to make money from it. Way too much hassle.

Junction Rd is off Rangitautau East Rd, takes you to the Witahinga Trails.

Somewhere around the centre of that photo is a yellow 200 litre drum, my mate with a range finder says it is 500 yards or metres...of course there are other places closer.

Hows that for basic accommodation, bed, gas cooker, indoor/outdoor toilet (the spade is for outdoors)

This is not a range, birdseed is placed on top of drum and sparrows shot at from great distances, so it is a full on hunting situation.

I'm looking for farmers who are keen to have game cleared, within an hour or so from Pukekohe, so I can do day hunts
Is there a resource for this?

Yes - its called go door knocking , put in the hard yards , establish your credentials , and eventually you will have a network of contacts that will produce results for you.

    There is no easy way.....
