I would recommend only using standard velocity ammo - the long rifle ammo of the day was pretty luke-warm compared to today so the mechanism wasnt designed to handle modern pressures.
Have you checked that the rifling is not leaded up? This can be a problem in older rifles but is readily overcome with some bore cleaner and elbow grease
First thing I did was clean it extremely well. Very clean and shiny bore!! Really good condition.
Good to know about standard velocity, but that's my issue here. Any lower or subsonic ammo is not loading right.
The high velocity went good.
