Getting back into air rifles !

Hey lads ,

Has anyone else done the full 180 and wants to get back into air rifles after having there FAL.
So long story short , started hunting rabbits on the family farm about 10 years ago with air rifles and did pretty well if I do say so myself. Learnt to shoot and learnt about shot placement etc..
Fast forward a few years and I have got my FAL and a few rifles under my belt. Been duck shooting, deer hunting and obviously rabbitt hunting.

I feel myself being pulled toward air rifles again , which air rifles have you guys and girls brought once you have got back into air rifles. I would love a PCP but cant justify the cost and setup.

Im looking at a crossman 362 pump up and eventually replacing the plastic breech with a metal one so i can put optics on it.

Worth the monies ?

I had an AirArms s410 TDR FAC and I loved that thing. Only sold it when I Immigrated. I've played with the little ratcatchers on and off, pretty much my whole life. Upgrading them gets addictive and expensive but they are heaps of fun.

pcp fx wildcat mk3 in 22, HW80 in22, Tx200 hunter carbine 177, HW45 pistol 177 all good fun. Another forum with member also on here worth following is www.kiwiairgunners.co.nz

I run a Benjamin 392 with a steroid tune from Mac1 air guns.
ported and billet lever etc, good for 14 pumps now.

kiwi airgunners I was on that a real long time ago. Around the time when everyone was modding 2240 crosmans, still got mine. Ill have to drag it out for a blast from the past...

Have tried to look on that site. But always comes up as not being secure, so never gone any futher. Do you know if that's the case with everyone?

Youngs Air Gun center is worth a visit if you are in Auckland.

PCP's make sure you can get the accessory parts. I get a few guys through my shop farting around trying to connect to dive bottles or compressors they have brought and not realised that just because they both come with Quick Release couplers it does not follow that they will connect to each other. US market, vs UK/Europe vs Asian, each having different standards and threads can make it a bit of a nightmare.

Going down the dieselling path with springers can lead to some crazy results. We used to spray pellets with wd40 and get some pretty nifty flames and supersonic cracks.....

Obviously make sure you are wearing your chainmail suit and safety specs....

had some issues with an airrifle a while ago ,sojoined the airgun forum -bloody marvellous bunch lots of very helpful advice .like this place cant reccomend enough.

I have a Sheridan .25...a really powerful, accurate pistol! And a .177 Benjamin Prowler rifle..man, has that got some grunt!

You need to ask yourself what you want the airgun for?

For many FAL holder and firearm owners, airgun is to supplement firearms. Mostly for where you cannot use firearms, for example backyard, or airgun clubs/competitions.

The next question is how much you want to spend. Cost directly correlates with accuracy.

Assuming you can afford the top end, you have only 3 options at the top: Diana 54/56, Weihrauch HW97K, and Air Arms TX200/Prosport.

As a supplement to firearms, go with 177 calibre. also high end pellets are the cheapest at 177 compared to 22 and 25 calibre.

AA TX 200 HC, HW50, HW80 22, HW45 22 pistol. Great fun!

I ended up buying a crossman 362 pump.
Pretty stoked with it.

Will be a nice little plinker and rabbbit killer with some necessary mods.

I use AirArms Prosport .177 with Hawke 8-32*56 sidewinder scope.

Recently had main spring break so have to get that sorted.

Called Youngs, $38 plus shipping for a new spring or $80 plus freight for him to do it.

Still approximately $250 for a sleeve (10* tins of 500 airarms diablo pellets)

Very cheap food harvesting,rabbits, hares, of possum fur $$

Everyone should have an air rifle, learning to stalk rabbits with a single shot is one of my favorite past times

Normally I'm a cheap barstard but for once I've taken the "pay once cry once" approach and I've ordered a FX Dreamline "power pup" in 25. I can shoot to 180M off the deck here with quiet rifles (suppressed 22RFs until now) so figure I have a nice long learning curve ahead getting the PCP shooting to a similar standard as a 22RF . . .
