Had a bit of time on my hands and decided to go to the Taupo range and really give the grouping thing a serious go. It was with my Ruger 10/22 and CCI subs with a VX1 3-9 on top. Son had shouted be a bipod for my birthday (Didnt see anything from you in the post Dundee!)
So I set myself up with the bipod on and a wheat sack for the rear.
25 meter mark and going for groups. After a fouling shot () started to get into it. First results were disappointing as I always thought I was a sniper but evidently I am a duck shooter with groups to prove that you can replicate Double O buckshot as long as you can shoot fast enough. I started concentrating much harder on my position, grip and sight picture and slowly but surely things are beginning to look better and better. It actually came as a shock to me I could see through the scope the rounds going in when shooting at 25m and 50m!
After getting reasnonable groups (Not really sure what you can expect from CCI Subs, might have to try something else for comparison) I ended up with the following "Zero's"
25m Half way between the Top Post and Cross
50m 1.5" high
60m Dead on
75m 3" low
100m Top of the bottom post
Best thing for me was having a target that gave instant ability to see where your shot has gone and something definate to aim for. I set up some old 1/4 clay birds at the hundy mark and would average 2 for 3.
2nd Best thing was taking some bread to the range!
So after a few hours and a couple of hundred rounds I was ready. Bring on the Minahs!
3 shots, 1 @ 70m, 2 @ 100. 3 birds down. I was real happy that I have spent the time to really get to know my weapon, knowing I had a real good chance of getting those shots. Its a real good feeling seeing the POOF of feathers and others on the range complimenting my (Sniper) shooting
Just to finish off, I shot out the drawing pins on the 25m target.
I know its a long way from 400m bunny busting, but it was a cool way to spend a relaxing day.
So people breath easy, NZ is now less 3 minahs! I will get the rest tomorrow!
