    Gong Sizes

What sizes do you guys recommend at different ranges? for practical applications, nothing specialist

Question arose in regards to an 800mm gong at 1000y? is it a touch too small?

    Cheers

    Define "practical"...

I normally use a 500mm x 500mm targets at ~1000 yards in competition. In shifting winds it provides enough challenge for most...

practical meaning we aren’t competition shooters, too big and it will become hard to carry / support etc
can imagine 2moa is challenging at that range in wind...

2-3 moa and 1 moa within a couple meters of each other.
Gets boring if the target is big and too easy to hit.
Unless you have brads chirping away in your ear about how gay blasers are and it's blowing up in your face is imminent

I think mine is 400 square. 10 or 12 inch And it's heavy enough to carry up a hill with a couple of warratahs and a club hammer. You will probably add chains too. Mine had holes cut in the two corners for the chain, the link of the chain sits over the top cut out of the warratahs. Works perfect.
If your with others being small doesn't matter much, the non shooter can spot for you, if you miss it. A mildot or moa reticle is handy for spotting, just measure for the correction.

At that distance you don't need the same thickness steel depending on the calibre you are shooting. Save yourself some weight and go with thinner targets.

cheers. thinking would probably need at least 2 MOA, however i suppose another way to look at it is keeping it roughly of a relevant animal chest size, if you get much bigger than 500mm it is more like shooting at a moose

Bigger gongs at 1000 say 4 moa are great for shooting at in any conditions learning ya gun, and boosting new shooter confidence.
Easy to have a half minute gong beside it for when ya got ya shit sorted out.
I like to have 3 sizes at 1000 to mix it up.
