    Gongs

Just read moosemans thread on gongs from mucko. A few of us out in the sticks are interested in stretching the legs out to 1000 yards on a property one of us owns.
We have some biz 80, and ar 500 already that fit the bill to 400. Rifles run through 300 win mag, 7 mm wsm, 280 rem, 308 and my springfield.
The question is what thickness is best for the new targets to avoid them getting damaged.
Brother in law works for steel and tube so hope to get it at reasonable cost in palmy

The Biz plates I got off Mucko are Biz 400 and are 15mm and 20 mm thick. So far we have shot them out to 700 yards with a 300 Win Mag and 300 Rum , 7mm Mag , 30 06 , 260 and 7mm 08. No problems other than if you hit the edge you take small chip out, hits square on plates are fine. If you are going to shoot further out they will work well. Talk to Mucko as he still has some round 20 mm plates at 7 and 9 inch dia.
When my gong was made the plates that came with it were Biz 80 and the 300 win, 270 , and 260 were leaving pretty big dents out to 500 yards.

Mine are hardox 450 12mm and they don't get touched. Some muppet shot mine with a 3006 the other day from just 100 yards, I wasnt happy but it still didn't touch it.

The further out you have them the less you need to worry.

Thats what we needed to know thank you. Yep the biz 80 craters with a 270 out to 250, ss109 223 is pretty brutal on it as well. Muckos a bit far away for us but you never know road trip maybe, will see what the bro in law comes up with first.

if some of the members are happy to pass the parcel we can get some plate to you, $45 for 9" $35 7" these are blank with no holes or hooks. takes a lot of close shooting to hurt these. hardox 450 is the next step.
