Thread: Hornady Precision Hunter Question

I'm curious as to what actual velocities are being recorded compared to what's on the box.
I've tried the 7mm08 (150 ELDX) and recorded 2520fps with a 20" barrel. Box lists 2770 fps (I'm assuming a 24" barrel)
I have already come to the realisation my barrel is a little slower than average but I still would have expected closer to 2600.

2670 from 20”tikka

Shot over a magneto speed and validated to 600m.

Shot real good but killed slow. What chrono you using? Can you validate at long range?

20inch Kimber Montana. 2636 fps shot over a magneto speed.

Dam that SD reminds me why I handload

Just a cheap Pro Chrony however I have used this alongside a lab radar and they consistently showed 20fps difference ( I can't remember which way but it was the same every time)
Haven't validated it at distance.

Yes, to be fair that actually sent me on my reloading journey. My 308 kimber shooting hornady whitetail 150gr had a SD of 6.2 fps, which I thought was much more respectable.

7mm wsm with 22" Trueflite, box stated velocity 3000fps

308 tikka 20” barrel suppressed. 178 grain precision hunter goes 2540 fps. Says 2600 on the box

Some is way better than most can handload I've had hornady doing 5

I use it in my Tikka Aspire in 7mm08, 24" barrel dpt suppressor: 2671fps

iv found 6.5 prc to be a bit slow.

Doesn't seem to be compared to others average fps...

The others were all 20" barrels, so should expect to loose 25-50fps velocity per inch of barrel from the 24" test barrel.
Box say 2770 for 24"barrel. so for a 20" barrel 2570-2670 would be the expected velocity.

Then some are faster than others, worn throat etc, over my head.
