How to clean out hardened hoppes no 9

Hey guys,
My bolt lock (that keeps the bolt in the rifle) started failing on the Remmy recently as its become a bit gunked up with that hoppes solvent. I've stripped the thing down and have been scrubbing with a wire brush and rubbing with CRC on cotton buds to try to get it off but it's not doing the job well enough.

Anyone got any experience with getting this crap off your gun?

It's been very gradual as it's from years of cleaning. Serves me right for being a slack bastard and not using my bore protector which would have not let this happen. The pic doesn't show it very well (too dark).

try Brake cleaner. I use crc one its in a bigger can then the 5.56

I've noticed this gumming up too.
I try and wipe all hoppes off with a dry patch / rag then rub on a barely oiled patch of a preserving oil (mobil DTE light) then wipe off as much of that as I can with another dry patch and theres always a film left to protect metal from rain and condensation.
I suppose anything as smelly as Hoppes 9 must be drying out to a thicker residue. It's meant to be a solvent, not left on metal indefinitely.
I see you can get an odour free Hoppes now and a separate "air freshener" to make your room smell like the real number 9. How sick is that ? The smell of Hoppes is just part of shooting and I wouldn't be without it.
