I bought a "well used" rifle, for a very modest price

    Hi team,

I bought a .243 mossberg patriot, with a no name suppressor, and 80 odd reloads, to be my primary hunting rifle.

As I understand this rifle has passed through the hands of a few fellas on here @JoelA and @NewbieZAR.

I bought some warne rings on here, and mounted the scope I bought when I was an apprentice all those years ago a vx1 3-9x40, love the banged up thing to bits.

Terrible mirage st 200m on anything above 6x, boresighted, few test shots on steel, then managed the 5 shot group pictured. Nothing about the function of the rifle felt cheap, trigger felt fine, all in all stoked with it as a hunting rig.

    Thanks Lars

if the scope itself is crappy above 6x...seriously consider sending it back for a refurb, that is a very dead deer grouping, nothing to be sneezed at.
you can borrow a scope till refurbed comes back....I have a fixed 4x that came back refurbed from previous owner who onsold it as had replaced...it is better than a new one.

Might be wise to not have personal addresses displayed in photos.
I'm sure you didn't mean to?

He nui to ngaromanga, he iti to putanga.

You depart with mighty boasts, but you come back having done little.
Sounds like a typical hunting trip !

Your fine to go hunting with that group. Under a dinner plate size group is hitting a deer in the lungs.

    Go harvest meat.

Great stuff Larrygoat. A great reminder that we don't actually need a brand spanking, top of the range whatsit, with the shiniest 50million power, latest, greatest gimicky whatever to shoot a deer.

When considering spending lots of money on something shooty, I think it is always good to remember the farking fousands of deer got shot by hard as nails chaps with a heavy as hell, dirty old three-oh, through open sights. Arguably targets were slightly more plentiful, but still...

Given it has already lasted through 2 owners, how long do you think the Mossberg sticker will stay on for?

Don't take it off or the rifle might not shoot afterwards!

When i had it (i had it for several years) i had a cheekpiece wrapped onto it with a sport bandage, so it was always covered.

Glad to see it's working out well for you @Larrygoat. I ended up only taking it to the range once and hunting once, so minimal stock use, thus keeping that all important Mossberg sticker intact

I read a thread from a very reputable source, that a mossberg sticker grants 10% accuracy bonus and 50fps, so it's staying on there allright!!
