Kids practice at the NZDA Riverhead Range

Yesterday the kids and myself went back to the Auckland DS range for a little more practice.
After a little bit of sighting in from me, the kids were let loose...
Troy who is 7 was using a CZ 452 Scout in 22LR and iron sights.
His groupings were about 8", with most in the 6" range... not bad... he is pin point when using his brothers rifle with scope...
He said he may think about a scope in the coming months.

Ethan my 9 year old has a Savage Mk2F again in 22LR, this was shooting very well, and his groups are now down to ~3" or better over a million rounds.
His scope is a Hawk 3-9x40.

We started the day with Winchester normal velocity and later in the day we went to sub sonics... groupings remained the same at 25m.

Both had a good day and at the end blew up some milk bottles for a bit of fun!
I managed a few rounds through their 22's, as well as a tried out a few slugs with the 12g.

Yeah the RO manning the 25yd range yesterday was a good friendly guy.

Thanks but it's not actually mine, I just happened to be on my friend's NHM 90 at the time. I was sighting in my AK on the next booth right.

Was out yesturday with the missus next to you guys, was great to see your little fellas so eager. Was a nice mellow afternoon, and fantastic to be out shooting again.

My kids loved the clay-bird targets... with the three of us time passes very fast.
...they also enjoyed their new earmuffs, a step up from their old ones in the photo's above.

That clay bird stand was very cool.
We are allready talking about her getting her licence and picking up a .223 or a 22-250 for her to shoot a bit longer range. (and for me to go chasing goats and wallabies with, just quietly).
She shot pretty well considering my 22 has a trigger thats so heavy it feels like the safety is still engaged....

Well we have been back many times since this thread was started, but today was the first time the kids hit the 100m range with their rifles.
We choose high velocity winchester ammo for the day, and it seemed to shoot really well.
Troy who is only 7, using his CZ with a 4x fixed scope got all rounds on target first time, grouping was about ~10" mostly, but pretty good in my opinion.
His elder brother also did well with hiz Savage.

Both also had a shoot with the AR, but FTF problems made us go back to the 22LR's, and the Rem700 308...
