The problem may be that kestrels cal mv should be done within 10% of mach 1.2 (as you said over 900 odd metres)
This is not practical for most of us hunters. I have done cal mv at 500m for a couple of different rounds (similar ballistics to your 260) which may interest you.
Eldx chronoed @2679fps did not require any adjustment.
Sako factory ammo chronoed @2655fps was way off. Walking rounds down I got on target and calibrated the mv at a whopping 2990fps.
Both cal mvs were done within minutes of each other so environment is not a factor.
I'm happy that the curve I have created out to 500m is close enough that any problems with it are hidden by my own shooting ability.
Long way of trying to say; don't read too much into the calibrated mv as the drop chart produced in the end will be solid enough
