Hi folks.
After getting my 300 win mag sorted I've decided I like the idea of having a lighter and compact rifle to shoot out to 800y max on a good day.
Hence going back to what I was going to do originally and build a 284win.
That being said with playing Mickey mouse with rifles and I'm currently speaking to Greg at Terminator products I'd like to see those 284s!
And go!
I have two
First a M595 in a McMillan Edgetech CF stock. 22" barrel. Really nice.
Then old stumpy the 17" T3 with DPT magnum on it. Currently doing one at present also with a bit of advice along the way from GWH. Wanted something nice to carry with my rem mag reserved for long range. Settled on this t3 (stug stock to come) with a vx3 and hardy can. Dies and brass enroute with load development to come Attachment 95027
Loose the Factory Tikka rings Cam - When i had them on mine the scope moved in them under recoil. Even with the stainless screws fitted to them they still bind up and dont tighten properly. I replaced with Talleys, all good now.Quote:

One built on Weatherby Mk5 Ultralight (7mm08 reamed out to 284) 20 barrel, STUG stock, bare rifle 5.5 lbs. Wears a magnum DPT can - makes it a pussy to shoot. Zeiss DL 3-15 x50. Pushing 160 TMKs at 2850 fps.:thumbsup:

The second built on Tikka T3 (2506), 22in Truflite UM bbl 1:8.5 twist, contour slightly heavier than standard Tikka profile. KH cf stock. Bare rifle 6lbs. VX6 3-18x44. Pushing 162 AMAX at 2950 fps :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Good question- I ran the barrel in and did all the load dev with out a suppressor, either prone off bi-pod or off bi-pod on portable bench set up. Recoil is noticeable (“sharp”) but not unmanageable by any means. This is my one here, Rem 700 action, 27" trueflite ultramatch barrel, stronghold innovation stock and a krg bolt handle. Shoots the 162 eld-x at 2850 (slow but could push more if I felt like it) 5-6" at 1000. Been awesome shooting some good stags as well as a few chamois as well.

Mine. 19 inch Barrel running a dpt. Vx5 up top. Shoots pretty good. have shot 4 inch, 5 shot groups at 600m. I run the 162 eld m at 2750 with h414. Seems to work.

+1. 20 inch with suppressor is great option for compact light set up & decent legs down range.
160 TMKs 2850 fps with the right powder :thumbsup:

@tonyd have you tried any other projectiles at all?
No just the 150 gameking and 150 eldx as I has them left over from my 7mm08. I suspect i have a shallow throated chamber my gameking load is only 2.908 coal with about 10thou off the lands.
Does sound short. The 150's are a good match. You should see some good speed out of them. I've been thinking of trying the 150 eld-x.Quote:

And I've only tried ar2209 and rl17. But without a chrono it's a guess as to what speed they are doing. But hey if it shoots good enough with the short throat i will leave it. i can get it lengthened as it's wearing out later on if I still have this and not something else by then I still don't know what I really want haha.
I have had good results with H414, Superformance and imr 7828ssc also go well.
You could also try 150 NBT.
