Long Distance Shooting Course? Bay of Plenty

    Hi Team

Does anyone know someone in the Bay of Plenty who offers Long Distance Shooting Courses for hunters?

I am a reasonable shot out to 300 yards, but am looking for someone to teach me the ballistic adjustment etc. ropes for longer distance shots.

I'm happy to pay the right person for your coaching.

    I am based in Rotorua.

    Thanks all.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that the chances of you having any lasting benefit from a "course" will be minimal.

Long range shooting is about practice, practice, practice.

Take a drive out to the Te Puke NRANZ range, and get those guys to help you consistently shoot out to 600yds. Step A is to be able to do this with no time pressure, from good mounds with a solid rest, and with good wind indicators.

Once you can do that, have a look at Gillice Practical Rifle Events on FB, and come shoot a couple of those in Practical Class. This adds time limits, uncomfortable shooting positions and real world topography.

Unfortunately what I am describing is likely to take 6 - 12 months, but then you will have a good grounding in both shooting fundamentals (fullbore target shooting) and shooting under pressure in real world conditions.

What ebf said. Have been to the Te Puke range, lots of grey hair present to teach you all the tricks. A very capable and friendly group.

@Copelli I wouldnt go near the Te Puke range. I went out there.

I did exactly what you want to do, before I know it I sold my long range rig I was going to use on gongs and PRS .....next minute I am bound up in a jacket and shooting with a sling!
But thats just my experience, there are still a good number of people that turn up and shoot their LR rig or their hunter rifle.
We shoot most saturdays thru the spring and summer, and also go away to other clubs to shoot.
Friendliest bunch of shooters to be found anywhere.

The season starts late September, give me a PM if you want for more info.
And some of us only have grey highlights

    @Copelli
I hadn't shot past 200m before I started going along to Te Puke earlier this year, now confident to shoot out to 600yards with my 308. Good bunch out there with lots of knowledge, @johnd even let me behind his target rifle
