I have been testing out the above mentioned rangefinder over the last day or two.
Got it set up to show tbr and tell me how much moa adjustment is required when using the 300 wm.
The unit gives me repeatable distances, so guessing it is ranging correctly, but once the distance is beyond around 700 yds, it will only tell me the LOS distance, without giving the required moa adjustment ( or holdover etc)
What am I doing wrong ?
Maybe its this as stated on their trouble shooting guide .
If in TBR for rifles, TBR output will not display past 800 yards. Line of sight distance will appear below the aiming reticle. thats for older models
Thats handy. Maybe they should tell buyers these little details :(
Its about as far as they can give fairly accurate data without useing actual velocitys, bc and atmospherics.

If it's not being used with a preset load it will give you TBR out as far as it can range, I just use mine like that and use strelok to do the rest
Not interested in using a phone based app unless I really have to. The reason I bought this model was to cut out the farting around. Point press and dial I thought.

Stop being a lazy guy. Use the rangefinder for ranging. Make a print out if you don't want a phone app. TBH my 1200 only ranges to about 7-800 anyway.Quote:

I don't have a huge problem with the rangefinder acting as it does personally, as my shooting is unlikely to ever go beyond 600 on game. Would be a nice feature to have when gong shooting though.
If an app on a $100 phone can work it all out, I reckon an $800 gadget should do too.
Such a limited capability should be mentioned by Leupold in my humble opinion.

Leica has a speel in their manual for the 1600 about not providing it past x range for safety reasons.
I agree that you should be printing it off and checking it against real life before even thinking about trying to bowl something at 600+

The place to carry a built in ballistic app would be a kestrel weatherstation. Then you have the wind pressure temp etc you need to shoot past 600m.
I've added a couple of correction factors to my printed drop chart like 1 clik for each 11m at 300m and per 8m at 500m also a few click for 30deg slope at 300 and 500m and a couple for each extra / less 500m alt ASL. Like you I dont want to use a phone app in the field. The drop chart only has figures for every 50m out to 600 so it fits onto my stock in big print.
My leup 1000tbr only ranges to 700m usually which is fine as i only rate my gear for 600m but frustrating if i want to try 1000yd target for a stretch.
Mine does 900 odd but haven't had it ping past 1k.Quote:

The leupy 1200tbr has a whole heap of preset ballistic curves programmed into it and you choose the one that best suits your load, as stated, it's not perfect especially once you start stretching its legs but it's the kind of gimicky thing that Americans lap up. I use mine without a load loaded into it and get my information from strelok as I'm not keen on shooting out front legs.Quote:

You will need to know the speed of your bullet, the BC of your bullet, scope height, zero distance and away you go. @Boaraxa I just downloaded the free version (for now) of Strelok onto my smart phone. It is a lot easier to use than I thought it would be.

One of the reasons I had not tried the app thing before, was that I wrongly believed that a data connection was needed to run them, so would likely be useless once in the back country.
This was a very wrong assumption, as you don't even need a phone signal

I've got an RF that has Ballistic curves built in as well - and I dont use them. I do, however, use the feature that calculates true range using the angle to target and the range ... useful !!!
Iv never done any long range stuff before other than holding high! but want to get this 3006 out to 500 if I can so I brought a vx 3L a couple of months ago in hindsight I should have got something with a dial but then I looked into what id actually brought & seemly I can get a custom dial made for it but looking at the vids online how you can take the dials off with a allium key & put the custom ones on ...myn has no allium key fittings just a couple of sirclips , even a zero function would be handy! anyone else got 1 of these with the custom dials put on ?Attachment 58124Attachment 58125
I had one similar and just dialed using those turrets. Got me out past 600yds no problems. There are now some turrets that can be fitted in their place. Someone else hopefully will give some more info about them.

Thanks Stug that's exactly what I need il chase that up...I see your comment on there haha , I just put a bipod on it yesterday some turrets would finish it off nicely.
